    Smokey on over run

Just had the 5 out for a run there after getting a few bits sorted. Took it to work about 15 miles all 100% got into it to come home and noticed abit of white/blue smoke wen coming up to junctions. So by the time I got home it wasn't too bad. Let the car cool prob sittin there for about 2-3 hours Took it for a spin to my mates house and on the over run it filled the road. Any suggestion?? It must be sucking the oil up from somewhere. Hoping it's not the turbo as it's only done about 400 mile last year and never had the bother. Guessing worn rings or valve stem oil seals cause it??

White smoke filling the road on overrun sounds like headgasket?

It smells like oil tho. Its not using water or over heating driving fine bar the fog it makes..

If it's white smoke then it's water but sounds like it's more on the grey side of your smoke equation then. So if it's oil then it's more difficult to pin point, could be a lot of things. Like you say, turbo. Could still be headgasket or cracked head if the breach were between the oil gallery and bores but less likely. Could be rings but also unlikely.

I'd whip the air filter off and see what play you have in the turbo shaft before anything else. If that's not conclusive, take the boost hose to the intercooler off and see how much oil you have in there. Next up would maybe be remove the turbo and see if there is an oil leak from the seals out the turbine side.

Guys, can a blocked breather cause this much grey smoke?

Took me long enough but i got stuck into the 5 last week found the source of the oil it was the turbo the fella that built it for me showed me the scratch on the bearing. My own stupid fault i changed the banjo bolt and pressure sensor bit for one with another out put for a mechanical pressure gauge and something must have been in there and done the harm... so got my turbo sorted but now its running really really lean when im driving along and one any ideas i have done nothing to the carb it was 100% before this.

If it's running o.k. then don't worry. As long as its fulling properly at WOT then you'll be fine.

we had a similar problem was a blocked breather and we removed the breather pipe from the telephone connector and put a little filter on pipe it sorted it out

Rite so after spending the full weekend in the 5 it went great never missed abeat and put a few escorts and a serria in its place i was more than happy on how the car went. Done 260 miles over weekend only opened the bonnet once and that was cause a fella at the meet was doing one up but had a pipe left over from his carb.. how do i upload pictures so there not a attachment and with the writing had a quick search there.
