time to get the 5 back on the road...?

    Hi all.

I've been playing around with various motorbikes since I last took the 5 off the road (again) in 2010, But recently I have been thinking I should maybe have a break from the bikes & get the 5 back out.....maybe...lol.

How she looked when she came out of garage....but dirtier....

does sometimes like to look like this as well...

So I decided to make a tentative start last Friday........

First job was to get it running again . It wouldn't start a few weeks ago when I went to move it (first ever break down since I have owned it!! probably the main driving force in getting it running again is that I don't have non runners...lol.)

New fuel pump & filter sorted that out.

Next job was to get it in an MOTable condition. With it being quite low at the front & having the 16's on I can't get full lock without some minor rubbing & with the 15's on it struggles to get on the ramps. So I have always changed the suspension setup to raise it for the MOT & stuck the blades on . Probably why I let it lapse last time tbh...I couldn't be bothered. lol...

This time I decided to "borrow" the 13's from the missus 5 as my 15's need tyres...but that's another story... I got caught doing it as well.....

Then changed the front ph1 Avo's to some new ph2 boge ones I have laying around but fitted with -20mm springs to give a small drop. (its usually dropped about 60mm). Raised up the back (left the avos on the back)......job jobbed after lots of sweating. My fault for picking a silly hot weekend....doh.lol

Front done & 13's fitted.........too low on the back still.

    Rear raised to match

Yesterday evening I made a start on giving her a damn good clean & polish so I can decide on what to do next. Pics will follow in the week.

So. where do I go from here. I love it the way it was in its various styles, but....& its a big but.....I also think it looks.....errr....kind of chavish...but in a good way..kind of..

I never thought I would be saying this...but standard is probably the route I will be following.

Really like the retro tsw blades and morette look. You not planning on putting morettes back on?

    Looks a nice solid 5!

    Hi Russ!

Car looks great. Glad it's back on the road.

Get going on making this OE+ as it's called these days. Side decals will go on a treat I reckon.

Cheers....Me too ....blades (or hocks), morettes, cool loovered bonnet, scorpion & slightly lowered (not too much) was always the perfect 5 in my eyes & very 90's!

I still keep thinking she deserves to be put back to a standard look on the outside rather than a modified look, not that mine is extreme at all. I also like the way they drive on 13's with a near standard ride height. Perhaps its my my age

I don't like the price the rubstrips & side decals are now though, so that may end up making my decision for me.

Not quite legaly on the road yet Trev

Russ love it been a very long time. I need a decent vented bonnet on mine but trying to find one with vents in useful locations is hard

I am not a massive fan of the bog standard look either...that's part of the problem & why I am at odds with what I "want" to do..lol.

Cheers mate, yes mate it has.

The only usefull vents are above the turbo & carb like mine. The side vents don't help that much tbh.

Back when I was first in the RTOC there was a bloke who used to do them vents for us, you could tell him what and where you wanted them and he`d stamp them in. I nearly got mine done but decided against it in the end.

That was a long long time ago! Not sure where you`d go these days, you`d have to find someone with a suitable machine! They certainly look better than glued on Cosworth/RS Turbo style vents.

Re: time to get the 5 back on the road...?

Cheers guys What to do eh...

My bonnet was done by Cool Louvres in circa 97/98 . I'm sure they used to advertise in the Wastegate at the time?

My car almost didn't get its bonnet though as the owner of Cool Louvres died before it was dispatched so the company closed. The owner of my 5 at the time had to go to cool louvres...find his bonnet...claim it & bring it back. Mine was supposedly the last 5 bonnet he ever pressed.

I think Cool Louvres was a Mr. Pocock....maybe.... Robert...maybe .....I am summoning details from the old memory bank now......lol..........someone may remember.

I don't know if this is the same company as they did reopen again some time later.

Its certainly similar. The extra small set of louvres are not in the best place though imo. Looks odd as well.lol. The most amount of heat comes out from the ones at the other end on mine. So, no need for the odd one really.
