    old oil?

Does engine oil have a shelf life. I have three or so cans/bottles of unopened that I'm hoping are still good as they weren't cheap. Talking up to 5 years old.

I know oil breaks down with age but not sure when it's sealed in a bottle.

Thanks peeps, I've since read on several company websites that up to five years should be fine with a shake but check for any bad smell or a cloudy appearance.
