Lower section of sill was cut out and lower section of inner sill chopped out. The inner sill from the inside of the car was perfect all sound deadening mat was removed.
Good to see a nice solid base coming along. Looks good. I've shyed away from jacking points a year or two with patches I've done. Looks like you have just tipped her on her side? Great for welding access but is she not getting a bit crushed?
Thanks mate. Put a single bed mattress on floor and cos shells so light it doesn't crush. Just so much neater and quicker just to put jacking points on. Rest of outer shell nitramoesed and filled.
Shell is now put into etch primer and 2k highbuild. Want the car silver so inside and underneath was painted in a pale grey commercial 2k more durable. Underneath and arches was stone chipped after been fully etched and sealed.
Decided to paint engine bay silver and mist inside with silver as well. Bared front subframe and suspension bits and painted in 2k straight black commercial paint everything was eatched first. Polly bushed with CGB bushes and new components.
Car and bits already for paint shop. It went to a place I used to work for many years. RESHAPE, Sheffield 01142 754574 . It was painted and baked in oven. He states "he would sort/help, body work and paint anyone wanting work doing from this website at a good rate".
I think you should change your thread title, as it can be misleading...
Excellent work. Must be good seeing all the bodywork done. How long did it take to get to this stage now? From the pictures you make it look like it was a days worth of work.
thanks, went in garage stripped around end of april. 1st thing was stripping floor. 1 side at a time, it was on each side for around 3 weeks a side, then lost bit of intrest. just kept having mad nites and weekends cracking on, then loosing intrest for few weeks. got it in primer and paint in September before autumn damp. car was finally painted middle of November, got more pics to put up, trying to get it on road for end of april. mainly engine left to sort and connectin brakes and fuel pipes
slowly throwing odd pieces on!! waiting for youngen to update some pics. turning into bribe time!! marky marks just on with engine. not far off now. yes I have morreties to go in.. doing saltys woke me back up to cracking on with it.
Beginning to put interior back in. Brakes stripped, blasted and rebuilt. Tank all stripped and cleaned. Mare to put back... This is the engine been sat in corner for the past 12 months covered. Ready for big clean and rebuild. Wheels waiting for tyres fully stripped and re painted ready to go on.
thanks , yes work in bodyshop, did it all at home. apart from topcoat. these picks are from around January. hoping would have all been done for now. il take more up t date photos soon....either got pocket of cash and no time,or empty pocket and time with hours searching for bits to put back together. thanks again
Interior nearly all complete, boost gauge and AFR gauge and clocks just to finish got a twin pod and Johnny to fit. 4 new bolsters fitted. Just an update of some pictures ... doors just left to put trims on. Going to check windows and locking first.
Marky Mark, give me loads of advice and ended up re- building me the engine. Turned out it was a good engine he stripped and re-built ,new bearings, shells, timing, seals, gaskets, flywheel was already lightened he put a 270 cam in said it had piper springs I also with his advice ended up purchasing a cr turbo 25/t2 massive thanks to him for re-build, help and advice. Just had to put gear box on engine after sorting clutch painted everything stripped all wiring and checked it all. Got engine bay all connected as much as possible ready for dropping engine in.
Engine and box finally sat in car until 7 days later clutch didn't feel right I got paranoid that I had put the clutch in the wrong way round so I removed the engine and box again took the clutch off to find it was correct in the first place. Its a new genreno clutch cable so it must be the ratchet on pedal.
The car is now complete tax, test and insured 100 miles left of running in my last few photos... id like thank all of rtoc for help, advice and contacts. Marky Mark for engine rebuild topcat for all teething issues and getting it fired ... ChrisRaider for pushing to get it finished. GTspares and CGB for all parts.
thanks lads, took 20 years to get to this stage of ownin a 5 that I can actually drive, I don't really think this would have happened without rtoc, thanks jeff ninebar .I was constantly scouring threw your project pics to see how things went.
