thanks
Hi mate, just wondered why you wanted a rev limiter?
You can flat shift without a rev limiter if your quick
Trust me a dropped valve is never pretty, when I did it a few years ago I actually had a rev limiter but one of the wires came off the aei so I was in second waiting for the limiter and well, you can guess the rest
Also worth pointing out that bouncing off it every five minutes is also no good for the collets or valve train even tho it looks and sound ace my carb at the time had a 140main and when I hit the limiter it used to pop blue flames even at a stand still
phil what size main you running now ? or was this sometime ago or maybe on another gt
You'll get to 500 posts soon mate.
Thanks for the replies, I was hoping he could sell it to me as from apart that they do sound mint when you hit it, it seems like a waste of time and money for a non racing car like mine.
Even when I drag away at the lights I feel I have more than enough time to glance at revs and if that doesn't do the trick I can hear the engine.
Really did fancy one. Maybe if one comes up cheap I can live the fast and furious dream
Try driving a high boost c1j in slightly damp conditions - one minute you have traction, next a bang off the hard cut limiter. This is what they are for - you can watch the rev counter as much as you want but without a rev limiter it will be off the scale easily if the wheels start spinning.
whats the best setup option / 6500rpm and hard cut ?
6500rpm - pppppppppppppffft.
Brigsy will be along in a mo and tell you that his doesnt get going till 7000rpm.
what valve stems he using then solid gold ones
I run a standard 120 main now, with an enlarged second stage for on boost fueling.
c1j's aren't exactly ideal for massive revs. The bottom end is good it's the head that's the restriction. I'm guessing brigsy doesn't run any valve stem seals, I made the mistake of using them on my engine build, I found most of them in bits in the sump
As said, well worth having a rev limiter on decent powered GTT's. I installed mine only the other day as it had become so easy to invoke wheel spin since fitting the standard 13" Speedlines, particularly so in the wet!
I'm presuming they don't lift with high revs?
I have my new head sat here awaiting assembly once my pockets fill enough to buy the gasket kit, mulling over if it's worth using these or not, never fitting standard ones ever again, the head is a low mile standard one and the guides appear to be good, I don't mind a bit of smoke on a hot start.
My head never had valve stem oil seals fitted when new. Save your money
my accelerator pump arm jammed the throttle open once..... limiter saved the day.
throttle springs can snap/pop off, cables can stick. deffinately worth having a limiter imo even if your 5 never gets to it.
My 5 done this many years ago was very scary flying through a twisty country lane flat out, it was only for a short time before I just switched the engine off but was definitely a brown trouser moment. I ended up getting a mate to tow me home who in turn pulled my towing eye off
