    Should I buy this?

It's a cat d 172. Thinking of turbo inch it. Going for £885 with 80k on the clock.

This would mean my drive has a megane 1.9 dci, a 5 gt turbo and a clio 172 turbo. Renault fanboy much...

You know when you just get a feeling about a car??? That one screams 'abused turd' to me for whatever reason. Not a problem if your going to fully rip it apart to give it some forced induction though but there are cheaper ones out there as a basis

    Re: Should I buy this?

I've seen a clio 182 cup pack, 100k, clutch, cam belt etc all sorted, few goodies, tidy for £1500... That's not a cat anything either..

There's no point buying a bottom of the market crapper, it'll be hard to shift.. Or 2k you can have a good one, 3k your lookin at pretty mint cars..

That cars gonna eat your wallet and still be a shed....

Have a turd, don't buy one.

    Re: Should I buy this?

I bought a silver 172 phase 1 for spares about 18 months ago for £350. With a private plate.
As per the above posts, unless you want to do a lot of work/spend a lot on it, leave alone.......there are better ones than that.

Cat D, grills missing, doesnt look the best, makes you think its just been ragged everywhere with little or no maintenance, could still be on original cambelt and clutch, cheap as chips though...

    Re: Should I buy this?

i buy and do up a few cars. - i'd avoid this.
as stated, missing grill - only reason for this is cos its been smashed to smithereens and the guy was too tight to buy a new one.
the front bumper gap to wing is shiiiiiiiiiit - so what else is bent underneath?
you'd need more pictures and a much lower price.

    Re: Should I buy this?

I went and took a look at it today, couldn't resist. It has a list as long as my arm of faults that I found.

The bumper is misaligned cus someone has bodged a new bumper mount and its miles out.

I'll keep looking, gotta be some more out there that fit my criteria

That depends on if the price is right and also I want to do the work myself really. Suppose I could always strip and rebuild for no reason!

Mine is a '53 (ph2) with all the trimmings. Everything works save the AC which I havent bothered regassing.
Taxed and tested, new tyres, new front discs and redstuff pads, new rear shocks and springs, balljoints, polybushes in the last coupla thousand miles.
Dephaser, all belts, idlers and tensioners done at 129k, now on 137k. Engine very strong, 167bhp. No rust. Interior very clean and no wear compared with others with half the mileage I have seen.

Needs a quieter exhaust IMO. Offers around £1700. Npt really bothered about selling it tbh, cracking little motor.

The girlfriend would be pleased that its a phase 2. What colour is it?

They sound like fun little cars.

    Silver.

Generally clean, bonnet leading edge slightly misshapen due to people leaning on it to close it instead of dropping it, dink on drivers door, small scrape on front OS corner of bumper. Nothing worth fixing though IYSWIM.
Full closure CAT1 with proximity sensors, 2 fobs, integrated with the ECU so you dont need the Renault zappy key which is prone to failure.

Debating taking up AutoSolo with it, because I dont use it enough
