Who recommend getting one?
Who recommend getting one?
i'd reccomend making one i bought on but it was too bulky to fit in anywhere so built my own and it works a treat. catches oil and everything
a old pepsi bottle works great
i hav a converted harrods tin that works a treat!! put a little breather on it and everythin....
ive got an orange fanta bottle at the mo, the hole in the inner wing where the perc fan originally goes is a perfect place for it
Section of garden hose, bolt for the back of the inlet manifold, bung for telephone hose.....sorted

do that, where the perc fan is, slap a bottle or something, job done
whats the benifit of an oil catch tank.?.................thanks
A nice benefit is you can simplify the beather system / pipework, de clutters the engine bay
Some people here gave me the advice to get an oil catch tank AND leave the original oil separator pot in place too... so I did exactly that... but I haven't had a single drop of oil in my shiny aluminium catch tank so far... and I'm running 22psi boost
1ltr Robinson's juice bottle as catch tank on my van, Doesn't really need it mind never seen any oil in it! Its all about the pmt
I love the way this club can bodge anythin, coke bottle as catch can, who else would do that lol
I think it's because, as a whole, it's quite a technically minded owners club.. Not so much blingy bling as some other owners clubs. As those that go the ring say.. 'No bling at the ring'
ive got a stainless one that i bought 2nd hand,it doesnt need a breather filter as the cap is breathable.
im unsure what make it is but it fits on the suspension turret nicely.
mine is still empty... but i've still got std seperator... going again the general grain here... but i got it cos its shiny! lol
the perc fan hole is a good spot, you can just about see mine poking through
i know i've routed the breather like a cowboy
also stops oily fumes being sent into the boost circuit, stopping your hoses from getting coated with a black oily film and finding oil in your intercooler, as it's vented to air.
the seperator stops oil from travelling into the breather circuit but if it fails you will find oil in the catch tank, if not it's working fine but they have been known to fail at high boost so best to fit a catch tank instead of using your intercooler
Ok so maybe a dumb question but what changes are made to the breather circuit when fitting the catch tank, apart from the obvious fitting of the tank itself what other pipes are removed/added/re-directed?

Ive done it like this. Unscrew the one way valve in the back of the inlet man ( Passenger side) replace with a bolt, remove the oil breather pipes + seperator pot
Put a t piece onto the pipe where the seperator pot site ( by water pump)
Run a pipe from the rocker cover outlet to the T piece, them from the t peice to the catch tank
Then block up the hole thats left in the Telephone hose

do you remember what size bolt you used to plug up the inlet with?
i tried just blocking the pipe and it didn't work too well... black smoke galore!
Hi Mate, cant remember off hand......Brigsy knows though as he told me .....make sure you unscrew the one way valve and screw the bolt in its place........its not a very long bolt i can tell you.....Just need the thread size ?????
bolt is an m8
depth is approx 30mm to bung it off.
i would get an 8x30 bolt...ptfe tape...bang it in there...
safe, i've got a nice pack of M8x30's so i'll crack on with this at the weekend
