Soft pedal conversion

So I have a soft pedal 'conversion' on the five, and it makes the pedal feel....well....****e if i'm honest. It also drags the clutch making gear changes a bitch which is no use whatsoever.

Considering the conversion is basically an extension on the fork to give the cable pull more leverage, and that the cable needs to move the fork further to actuate the clutch properly, I would think that you would need to do something with the pedal quadrant to do just that.

So - Is there a different pedal quadrant to increase cable travel? Or am I throwing this conversion in the bin?

I have no probs with mine matey. Did you use the pressed steel Volvo one or the chunky cast Renault one? Have you tried adjusting the pedal quadrant?

Was going to fit one of these while my box is out, not sure now lol

You need to take the peddle stop out and shave 1mm of it, if it still drags the clutch then take another 1mm off it and so on.

You will need to reset the quadrant each time.

Or take the stop right out and have the peddle at the steering wheel

Problem solved. Ripped the soft-pedal conversion out, and then had to space the clutch cable back at the fork too. Disengages properly now.

Bite point is EVIL though, the spring-back at the bite point increases by about tenfold as you bring it up. Stalled it about six damn times

the longer pedal conversion sorts that Take the pedal stop out and file it down that will allow the ratchet to go a few clicks further and get rid of that spacer.

I didnt fit any of it, I just took it off!

been running this for years on the clio, no bodging, no shaving, just bolted on and it works brilliantly with the paddle clutch

By now maybe millions(?) of Renaults and Volvos have the longer arm. Not because it doesn't work but because it does.

David cannot respond right now, due to severe neck trauma. All that was heard on the way to casualty was "That f*cking clutch...."

Actually, its not so bad when you get used to it. Better than the clutch dragging and it grating all the gears.

I had the Sachs heavy duty competition clutch in the 5GTT, 'organic' not cerametallic, it was hard to push even with the longer arm. Without it, apparently, the cables snap quite soon.

What bit do you shave down , any pics would help , also in the guide the Volvo part numbers theres no stock anymore but got the Renault items came in at £56 odd

The pedal stop which is a plastic block that the pedal stops against.

Was that just your Volvo dealer out of stock of the whole of the UK?

Yeh the nylon bush was £2.01 from Renault
