a Little concern with the clutch!

Just done a big rebuild of engine and swapped gearboxes and put it all back in the motor. Clutch is a saches and only done about 2000 miles. Put it all together and drove home no problems.

Been driving it around for over a week now and has been fine until the other day when it felt a little tight getting it into first and I could feel a slight vibration when resting my foot on the clutch pedal. It continued to feel tight so I popped the bonnet to find the gaitor around the clutch fork had slid up and the clutch fork jigging around!

I slid the gaitor back down which stopped the fork jigging put the bonnet back down and continued to drive and was selecting gears fine for about 5 minutes until it happened again!

Car is still driveable but concerned that somethings not right, has anyone got any ideas of what could be causing this?

    Thanks

Release bearing and or fork arm not seated correctly .It shouldn't be able to move upwards by any noticeable amount .

Re: a Little concern with the clutch!

Ok so stripped the front of the car tonight and got down on eye level to see how the clutch release bearing was sitting by looking through the gap which would normally be covered by the gaitor over the fork.

Looking in with a torch I could see the bearing fine and that the fork was sitting in correctly and with the missius sat in the car I could see it all worked fine! Couldn't for the life of me understand what was causing this so wondered into the back garden to look at a knackered gearbox thats doubling up as a garden feature so see if that could shed any light!

Almost as soon I saw it I knew what the what the problem was, the sleve that covers the shaft (see picture below) might be missing from the gearbox!! So another look through the hole confirmed it! So the bearing must be sat of centre as it sat on the shaft which is smaller!

So my question is has anyone ever or know if its possible to remove the selve from one box and transplant it onto another with out having to dismantle the box? Realise the lumps got to come back out to do it but if I can get the sleve of the garden ornament it will allow me to use what I know is a good gearbox!

Anyway Sorry for the essay! Any help much appreciated!

Yep, Renault made a special tool to pull the sleeves off and to push new ones in.
I wouldn't bother using the 'Garden ornament one' new ones aren't that expensive.....
Is it leaking gear oil into the bell housing too?

Not that I can see, altough it could be! Does the sleeve form part of the oil seal as well then?

Wouldn't know the part number for the sleeve?

    Part no. 7700102090
    Input bearing.
The tool uniformly grabs the sleeve and pulls it from the casing, then is reveresed and pushes new one into place.

I think the tool no. is BVi 1445.

Do you think it could be possible that its missing completely from the gearbox or would that mean oil leaking everywhere? Kind of hoping the sleeve hasnt snapped of! Would be nice to just have to press a new one in rather than dig then old one out first!

They can get pretty hot pretty quickly and start melting things together. Peugeots are the worst for it, you replace that tube each clutch change.

I suppose when you think about it, 20 odd years of gear changes, could wear it out and fatigue it a bit.

Re: a Little concern with the clutch!

Been onto renault and the new bearing part with the sleeve is coming out at around £50 so have ordered one of them. The tool to remove the bearing is coming out at around £450 + vat so have decided against purchasing that!

Has anyone managed to remove the bearing once the sleeve has snapped off? As I guess the tool pulls on the sleeve?? If so how?

    Thanks
