    Started but not running right

Right, got the 5 running yesterday after doing the head gasket - started first time with no choke amazingly so took it round the block for a little test drive.

It's boosting but feels very flat and bogs out a bit on low revs. The petrol that's in there is from March so we will change that ASAP but does anyone know any other reason for this?

    Cheers

Make sure that the FPR vacum tube is connected up. Carb top to FPR.

I hope they can sort it out for you... did you change the head gasket yourself?

Feeler gauges, haynes Manual, 10mm ratchet spanner and about 20 mins to get the rocker and hoses of / out of the way and then adjust 15, 20 or 20, 25 or 20 20 dependant on cam and then put it back together.

did you get the head skimmed when the head gasket was done, whoever did the work, must have slackened the tappest to tourqe down head. well i did , then re set tappets by following a haynes manuel.

Re: Started but not running right

Sorry - what do you mean slackened the tappets to torque the head - the tappets were done and the head went straight on to be torqued? Would the tappets slacken by themselves??

The head was from CGB - skimmed and tested etc and the tappetts were done to 0.2 and 0.25 I tink.

Would the tappets not being set up correctly cause the flatness when driving? It's not smoking and doesn't bog out anymore.

Re: Started but not running right

set valve clearances to inlet .15mm and exhaust .20mm this is what the clearances are supposed to be as opposed to .20mm/.25mm
the engine will be slightly less tappier with the clearances ive stated.

OK, followed the Haynes manual but realised that it's wrong - also realised it's wrong when it tells yout to put the head on before whatever that thing is that goes underneath - cam follower or something? - can't remeber what it is.

    Thanks for you help

Remember also that the Haynes manual is based on the non-turbo, single carb 1397cc engine. So there are differences for the other engine configurations, where different parts are used, so you have to bear than in mind.
