    altenator wires

ive changed my alterator to my old one.
as the one i got with my new engine keeps chucking belts as it doesnt look aligned properly.

and now ive got the old one back on my battery light has come on.

so now im not sure if ive got a wire on the wrong way.

could someone please tell me which colour wires go where?

pictures attached how ive got them not very good quality though.

and on the last pic i have one wire disconnected, with this dosconnected the light doesnt come on. was thinking that this could be the wire on the wrong place.

or the alternator is just naff.

    cheers

Not sure what that one's for... you could try sending Scoff or James5 a pm... they know just about everything! But as far as my expertise goes I'd say: buy a new or reconditioned one mate

the bolt-on wires are right, you need that big earth wire bolting back up.

I never remember which way round the thin yellow and purple wires go at the top of the alt, it is possible they are on the wrong way around. but, don't trust the battery light to tell you when it is charging, use your multimeter on the battery while running, if its charging you will see 13.8v ish. If it isn't charging you'll see 12v ish.

i think the wires at the top are right as im sure i remember someone saying the yellow one goes nearer the bulkhead possibley.

so if it isnt charging the alternator is buggered i take it?

    cheers

    Re: altenator wires

I have this problem sort of. The light flickers on at high revs and was doin it on the way home cruising. Stopped the car and wiggled some of the wires. its the wire nearest the carb at the top (if that makes sense) is there a dodgy earth or something going on? When I moved it so it went off everything was fine for a while, then i hit a bump and it flickered a bit? Should I just take it off and re-do the wiring?

ive just compared it to a photo i took of my alt' to remember where all the wires go, they all look good to me, even the yellow and purple You've gotta put that earth wire back on thou.

If the new alt' you've bought doesn't fix the problem you might wanna follow all the wires back from the alternator and make sure non of them is damaged or broken
