    End of an era....?

Well looks like 'Ole RED' my race/sprint R5 is to be broken up..
I've had this car for along time and it will be a sad moment when it goes to the big scrappers in the sky......unless I can get 2 full outer sills, 2 inner sill repairs, 2 jacking points and all the holes repaired behind the body kit........
I think its bad enough to crush, but Oli Davies has kept saying its still solid.......the repairs I've listed are a bit over the top, but, Im a bit too much of a perfectionist for my own good....
Unless I can find a bodyshop who would like to sponser me!!!!

Inners and outers are nothing new, the grass isn't always green. Put it on hold and try hunt down another 5, I know mike phase1 16v has a few 5s kicking about, he might have a good shell in need of an engine.

Worth an ask... If not fix yours, saves the time and effort swapping parts/engines over.

Most will be like that - you should have seen the state of mine! If you're thinking of staying in the R5 circle I'd have it repaired.

sills cost me £80, and a bodyshop fitted and sprayed for around £200 mark..

Gota be better to repair it then crush and go through all the hassle of breaking.. cumon save a 5, there all rotton unless they have been welded or stored,, get it sorted and feel good.

Find a small welding set, a grinder and you'll pick it up in no time. its actually good fun once u start chopping bits off and welding nice new shiny bits on

Done it so many times now to so many cars (close to 20years) ...getting too old to do the 'Mig dance' for hours on end...My old Mk1 and Mk2 RS Escorts were the ones that taught me that......

Cage might be out soon too....

mines took me about 4 months of one day a weeks work. i can gaurantee my 5 had more rust. sills inner and outter are really easy to do. (especially with a spot welder) It is really bad enough to scrap??

Im a bit too much of a perfectionist for my own good.... (quoted from first post......This might have something to do with it......)

I was in the process of making some adjustable lower arms and independent rear suspension, linking up on the original mountings, so able to race on it.....can't be arsed now.

    Right!!!!

The old girl is to be saved, after seeing how much some shells were going for in a worse state than mine, I decided (with a little help from Ashy's inner sills thread!!), that the car will we better, stronger and faster than before, I refreshed the modifications I had put by and ticked and crossed boxes on a sheet for the direction to go with it.......

I managed to get some of my mates on a cheap Dec trackday at Brands.....but will miss out on it myself.
But, the Blue clio of mine is dormant at the moment.......looking for a Brands trackday in the new year...... This one goes very well when I'm not popping headlights in mid drift......

G10FAR, Penfold and Matt 'Jesus in the seat of a 5' seemed to like it when I took them out in it at the Brands trackdays earlier in the year......was a bit quiet in the car at moments though......might have been the brakes and tyres going off after 8-10 'full on' laps....

.....sad to say it but it got worse and worse and worse....
It had even rotted out the drivers seat cross member from the tunnel to the sill

So after buying a shell from Marky Mark BD it made more sense to reshell it.....there was no way I was going to spend 6 months of welding, if I'm busy with other projects.

    Sad but its gone.

Bring on the next best thing.

Hehehe! Oli, you have seen how quick the 306 is in project 8, and Rich's 205 in DMN.... Basically the same running gear and engine, but lighter than 306 iirc.

Well....after stripping off the outer sills, poking around with a screw diver and finding out the full extent of the rust.
It was decided that the car would never hit the tracks again, so with the help of Oli Davies we took her away to be crushed.
    Sad day, good-bye 'good buy'.....
