my ph1 gtt - keeping the dream alive - new wheels for 2011

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

ive only been in the world of r5s for just over a year now but my bros had a few so knew abit about them.

ive been loyal to vauxhall since i passed my test owning a 1.2i nova, 1.6 gsi corsa and then a 2.0 16v corsa running 250bhp, then i did something i said i would never do and bought a 5 gt

its a 09/1986 ph1 electric blue 5gtt. i when i bought it, it already had the tarmac front bumper, scorpion exhaust, t25, ph2 seats and clio williams wheels.

i cant find the pics of when i first bought it but this was after a few mods
(vnt, fmic, avo coilovers, interior, side exit, bonnet, yellow samcos)

christmas day 2008, melted a heater matrix hose on the way to christmas lunch

after a quick clean at work. std rusty bonnet was fitted whilst the silver bonnet was getting painted. also the addition of red tinted rear lights

i noticed the front bumper was loose, resulting in the mount still being attached to the bumper and not the car as it should be. this was the start of the rebuild ............

bonnet back from being painted, also a ph2 spoiler

and new powerflow 2.5" system as the sidey was catching on everything

smoothed ph2 front bumper as the tarmac bumper is horrible

cleaned so took it out for some pics (miss it looking like this now)

time for inspection of the sills as the inner sill was rotten and falling out

    welding it at work

    new wheels, borbet a's off a e30 bmw (7.5x16" et15 )
after some machining they went on

quick idea before fcs09 but it kind of stayed

    fcs2009

not much room in those arches

    new "flat cap" centre caps

modified live as snetterton 2009 with my bros 5

now the fun started. moved out of my parents in nov09 and as i had a garage i decided to bite the bullet and check it out fully to see just how bad the rust that i has been ignoring was.

i'll upload the next half soon

top marks for effort m8, alot of people wudav seen the rust and broke it for spares rather than repairing it.

imo i liked it with the willy wheels, grey bonnet and without the checkered graphics (abit like my car really)
(i need to hurry the powdercoater up with my willy wheels, they look great in black)

Re: my ph1 gtt - keeping the dream alive

everything is now back from being painted. new paint is slightly lighter and noticeable but i dont mind, the rest needs paitin anyway and can be done at a later date. spent a couple hours after work today messing around with the 5 putting some of the panels back on.

    start

    wheel alignment

first wing on (you can see its not the same colour but i prefer it to the old colour)

    next wing

    bumper

engine bay with its blue frame

    rear bumper

drivers side with skirt temp fitted

    phase2 rear arches

    finished for today

Re: my ph1 gtt - keeping the dream alive

maybe without the roof being checkered you could keep the wheels, mirror and wing mirrors (if they make their way of marks raider!) and it wouldn't be so over powering.

The one thing that really annoys me about my car is the fact i have a white engine bay in a blue car, but if you can live with it and keep it clean then

the new paint has definitely freshened it up

im thinking that i might ditch the roof chequers when i get te rest of the shell painted. they were only a temp thing for last yrs fcs, but they kind of stuck.

hopefully it will be mot'd this week. ive got fri off work so it might make it to frog of the pod but not sure yet

    engine problems

i think the liner seals have spung a leak

    snapped rocker shaft clamp

head off to inspect for any damage, and all seams ok

sump removed to clean out and gain access to conrod bolts to remove liners

will remove liners one eve and inspect them and refit everything

Couldn't agree more - had to do a fair bit in my garage, and it's been nothing but a funking pain in the arse...........

Out of interest, did you paint the bay yourself?? - if so what did you use?

bit of an update for you all -

the running in period is going well. roughly 200miles covered now (almost a full tank already!)
its first proper drive was to fcs so it was abit of a test for it after a few teething problems. luckily the journey there was eventless

heres a few pics from fcs10

also last nite i picked up some new seats for the 5. i plan on getting them retrimmed in cream leather with cream suede centres

and after a clean, heres my current interior

and the 5 safely home again (wheels havent got too dirty yet)

Re: my ph1 gtt - keeping the dream alive

nothing much has happened lately really to update about.

just been driving it and getting some miles on the new engine (400ish now)

the chequers have now been removed from the roof also and i hope that soon it shall be going in for a full respray with maybe some more suble changes.

why is it that you have loads of ideas on what to do, but by the time you actually get to do them, you have new ideas but its already too late?

finally got round to sorting out the oil leak now ive finally found where it was from
it was leaking from the oil cooler sandwich plate and the radiator where the lower oil cooler pipe goes.

thanks to my bro it was an easy fix, as he gave me his external oil cooler as he was unlikely to use it.

will get some pics up tommorrow.

as for the respray, im still awaiting to hear a date when i can drop it off
