bit confused of how many types of ngk plugs there are out there and the difference in prices
what the best ones to use overall for the price???

NGK B8EVX are very common as are B8EG.
N3G's, N3C's, B8EG's, B8EVX's are the common plugs. Everyone has their own preference - For example, I know Scoff hates the NGK's with a passion yet I've personally never had any problems with them over the years.
Is there any difference in these plugs apart from price, are some meant for higher boost engines and as a result are at a colder grade??
Yep. The higher the number, the colder the plug. 6/7 is around o.e grade, which is probably ok upto medium boost levels, but then you might find a colder plug (8) is better if running higher levels of boost.
9 grade is far too cold for a c1j engine, so no need to go that extreme.
As has been discussed before mate, N/A 1400 renault 5 plugs also have been used by alot of people with no problems, cheap as chips aswell
n3c's and never had one fail, im not a fan of the ngk's either.
champs for the champs here.... i cant see a real difference in the plugs, aslong as you have your selective gap and plug heat rating to suit tune....
Ive been using the Champion N3C Campus plug for almost a year at 20lbs, worked fine with no issues
The NGK B8 EVX plug is arguably the most common plug used in the C1J
One thing I've personally found is that the Champions certainly don't like lean ish conditions - White tip city, whereas the EVX were a nice 'normal' browny grey colour.
Mart, I used the plugs in a just run in 130-140k engine and for me, the NGKs did the opposite, sooted up pretty easily.
Maybe it was down to the engine age or condition but its not suffering from any ring blow by or anything significant in my eyes to affect the operation of the plugs.
Who knows...it may be a fluke
More than likely a richer fuelling setup...
probs to cold a plug for you tune spooks (if it foils up to fast at a reasonable afr)... as said depends what you like..
I was trying to word that without sounding patronising
Now now......
Bang on 12.1-12.2 afrs at w.o.t in 4th & 5th @ 20psi manifold.
It would lean a little as I had a ****y collector pipe on the wideband on a few runs but managed to fish out and use a down pipe with a bung, all was good after that.
In all honesty, I could've lived with the NGKs after I got the fuelling sorted but the Champs seemed to recover better so I stuck with them
Like I said, a richer fuelling setup...
Spooks, what's the off-boost afr's like?
Thats it spooks, champs for the champs, .... with your afr, if at stock ign/comp, you could let that back a few points.. be ideal to have some det cans tho...
Problem from the off was not enough fuel at higher rpm, off boost was seeing early 14's...idle from memory was bob on 14ish
no need to knock it back, you could raise boost a tad too 22-23 with that ign, if all healthy.. but imo once you get up near there id rather start to use det cans... end of the day if your happy at 20 and x,y,z afr and it isnt coursing an issue leave it be.. unless you get anal with drill sizes...
whats the differance between the n3c and the n3g?
The electrode material.
so both have the same heat rating? would the G be the better plug? are the C's for the campus?
Aii mate. The C's have a copper electrode, and the G's have some fine-wire 'semi-precious' electrode.
The way I always remember which plug is which, is C for Campus, G for GTT.
Saying that, I still rate NGK
thanks mart, i have been running the c's without issue but i may upgrade to the recommended ones. im hoping for 20-25 psi so i dont think the c's will be much good at that level and im not a fan of ngk iridiums as they seem to foul quite easy, i have not used them on a gtt but they used to be rubbish on my bikes.
Iridiums are a waste of time. The normal NGK's (a la B8EVX for example) are perfectly fine.
