i used to use http://www.pug306.net/ however its a free site and has some of the downfalls of 106owners with the 17 year olds wanting to do 200mph in a 1.4 but other than that a good site.

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
they are meant to be great mile churners mate however mine has a leak i think so not so good.
The engines are very reliable, if all pretty oily, and there are hundreds in scrapyards as the engines came in soo soo many cars, they also handle really nice, and drive very modern and comfy.

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
Looks like a good car for a run about Couple of tips. Try not to put filler over paint, knock it back to the metal first. Little dents are o.k. Dont paint up to the tape edges, its a ******* to flat and if it were a gloss finish metallic or straight gloss you would see the line no matter how well to flat thee edge away. Also go easy on the primer try not to rub it all off

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
yea i learnt the lession of spraying upto the tape, luckily the roofs going matt..
The 1/4 isnt perfect but a lot better than it was, be ok for the workhorse though.
im using a reall bright 2k white gloss, yea i tried to go easy with the high build but it didnt come out the gun the best due to the low air pressure so i had to flat quite a bit off.
cheers for the advice

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
Little bit of an update, theres been a few changes of plans , simply as it looks like my r5 isnt far away and thers some more involved plans for that so therefore i need to get this car ready and looking presentable ready to tow its ass around..
The new plans regards styling requires the removal of the bumpstrips, somthing i really didnt plan for originally.
To lose the holes where the bumpstrips oringially went i played with the idea of welding them however i was worried that the heat my warp the thing panels , meaning it would be a nightmare to get straight, therefore i took the other option of using p40 bridging filler, this was a nightmare to apply, and meant the removal of doorscards etc, however even with that removed space was super super tight, however with a bit of effort my french hands managed it, so here we go.
this was then knocked back on the outside using 120 grade sand paper and i applied some filler to the one side, i can see it being quite a paint to filler however only time will tell.
please excuse the dodgy filler work, i though id apply as little as possible first to see what i could get away with.
Thats all i managed to get done this sunday , simply as the temptation to jump on the bike became to much.
well a bit bored of doing everybody elsese cars, and fed up of having runs in with the law simply as the car looked dodby being odd colors we decided to mission thec and get it finished..
up went the gazebo on saturday and we wet flatted and sprayed the rear 1/4
being a rattle can/celly the paint reacted very easilly , however we found giving it a few very very light dust coats to initially give it a key helped
also dropped a set of coilovers on it
many many hours of wet flatting the 2 wings and 2 doors. so i grabbed the local monkey to give me a hand.. (look at them eyes!!! are you scared)
some paint on a wing
then it all got a quick wash off
although theres still more bits i plan to do , i can only give this car a very small budget as i still have the r5 and 205 to finish which take up plenty of cash..
enjoy!

Low! Cool. I'd go matt something else and lose the orange wheels personally.

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
going to avoid matt, its a bit of a pain especially with diesel smog, it engrains itself into the paint, and consdidering its not like you can polish it to remove crap its litrally a case of soapy water and elbow grease.
Gota keep wheels a bit longer yet, but i may consider repainting if i get bored and have some spare paint kikin about.

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
i think it'll look good once you get it refitted.
there's a white gti6 that parks down the road from my work, i think it looks the nuts and would be tempted by one if it wasn't so old, i'm a tart with a private plate, kinda annoys me as it really limits the cars i can have and keep my plate
good on you for doing the spraying yourself, it's something i've always wanted to try my hand at

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
hehe thanks. nah i dont work in a bodyshop, just taught myself and (going to sound really gay now) but find it quite relaxing in comparision to mechanics. The bodyshop the cars in there is just the guy who did the sills for me on the r5, he allows me to use his booth when hes not busy and in return i put few hours in helping him out etc.. Started the 306 at 7:00pm and finish at 2:30am.. to be honest the finish in them pics looks better than it is.. for some reason i struggled to get the paint to hit the surface wet and instead its very dry, if you run your hand over it its like a sponge (not smooth)..
All being well i plan mask it up again and just hit it with a couple of wet coats to make her shine.. thanks for the support though
and p.s the r5 will get 20x the amount of time this one gets :P

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
well removed my 1.9 dt engine for a super low milage one today.. having looked back i wouldnt of bothered, the job is a nightmare, have done so many tu3 engines 205, 106, saxo, renualt 5 turbo, 205 gti6.. this is by far the worse..
mainly the car anything plastic seems to brittle and just snaps, i snapped the clip that holes the bottom rad hose, and snapped the heater matrix hoses, the drivers side shaft was stuck solid in the mount, even now the engiens out i cant get it to shift, using heat, and hammers..
-
Re: my 306 dirty derv project
old plastics are craap but if your working in the snow it will all snap, cold makes it brittle
cars looking good

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
To get that shaft out you need to hit the inner collar with a drift, hit it hard it will come out eventually. My xantia has the same setup and my intermediate bearing was solid.
Brave man taking the engine out in the snow, fair play

Looks SO much better after raising it! I really don't like the broken look of ridiculously low cars (except on a big yank low rider!)

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
bit of a better day today, managed to flat 90% of the runs , leaving only tiny pin prick marks on the worst, certainly didnt warrant any more paint considering its only really a bit of fun. The paint one again was very difficult to get to gloss up directly out the gun, basically the margin between runs and orange peel was a hair line, , i imagine the only way to get this stuff to look good is with a very heavy flat and polish, personal note , dont by this jawells solid paint, £92 5ltr of paint 2.5 hardener and 5 litres of thinners.. in future ill stick to the standox stuff , much easier to use, far less time consuming, i guess you learn. Anyway although the paint once again ended up very dry in places, i rubbed it down to 1200 and gave it a very quick buff up and fortunatly it did come up better (see pic of roof), i ended up repainting the bonnet this morning as the grey primer was showing slightly.

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
i was a paint sprayer for ten years and still do it in my spare time
and it takes years to master it keep going mate dont loose faith
your runs are in all the classic places for a begginer watch out when your over
lapping on the edge of your panels try not to go over it twice in one pass if you know
what i mean, and there is so many factors that can stop you from getting a shine straight from gun can list them all if you want, but also dont want to tell you how to suck eggs dont know how far down the learning path you are

Re: my 306 dirty derv project
nah i dont take offence dude.. its just strange because i was always scared by metalics , yada yada yada, sprayed them no problem, come to this "simple white " and its a nightmare..
I had 29 psi (correct pressure), i started at 5% thinners and went as high as 20, at first i was moving fast, however i found this was putting the paint down far to drive (like the first time) , so the second time i slowed down, and what i found was it went on a little like orange peel but what i would best describe as a non slip surface, like the air pressure was blowing the paint when it hit the panel. I didnt have the gas heat on as im cheap arse (broke) and cudnt afford the gas, so i kinda blame that for the runs, i think what made it very difficult is tht i was finding it hard to see the wet paint on the dry due to the colour, it made it very difficult to keep a good trace on where i had been and picking up the wet paint on large panels like the bonnet. Any pointers id be happy to hear buddy, unfortunatly when i use the booth for my own thing its always late at night, which means the boss isnt around and therefore i cant ask for on the spot pointers if that makes sence , all back yard and internet learning taught im afraid .
And sparkie, if it does or it dosent, it sure does one thing, gets on your tits.
