    Air filter size vs power

Just another quick question to help me in my search for 300bhp.

Obviously we know Scoff stole his air filter from a oil tanker but for a modest 300bhp Whats the best size?

Size in terms of surface area of the actual filter its self or the hose diameter? I would say that most aftermarket filters fitted to gtt's would flow 300hp these have a sive of around 54mm. Wrc cars make a tad over 300hp with a restrictor fitted.

surely the 52mm pipe is a restriction, and a massive one and a half sized one shouldn't really make any difference?

i'd be more worried about where it goes as opposed to how big

Do you not have to keep in mind dragging warm air into the inlet?

Of course, but I assumed Speedy would be aware of that already. Likewise for the location.

Out of interest, would sometimes fitting a smaller air filter (bigger than the inlet pipe so it wasnt a restriction) be better if it was sucking in colder air? I guess what i am trying to get across, is volume of air or temperature more important?

Both are important, but if it was one or the other (highly unlikely), you'd choose volume otherwise you'd be starving the engine of air.
