Stiffer & shorter springs for Spax RSX

As per title does anyone know of any internet sites that would supply me with some stiffer and shorter springs to use on my Spax RSX coilovers??

    Cheers James

Depends what size they are - if they're 2.25" or 2.5" then either

    Merlin http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/

    or Demon tweeks http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/

will be able to help you out!

Re: Stiffer & shorter springs for Spax RSX

Well I have now got a set of shorter and slightly stiffer springs than the original Spax RSX versions. I spent the last 90mins removing the coilover to which only took about 10mins and the rest of the time was spent trying to undo the coilover main top fecking nut to which I have had no fecking luck undoing on either. Strange really as whom ever put the coilovers on in the first place barely done them up on the lower strut carriers took no effort to undo (I didn't install the coilovers on this 5).

The nut is a 21mm nut and I unfortunatly do not have a 21mm deep spanner and there is a 9mm spanner placement aswell to keep the shaft still (this is just above the 21 mm lock nut) but for the life of me I have had no success on doing this tonight is there anyone local (henfield coilovers are off the car at presemt) or do you think a local tyre place / garage may be able to help me out?? does anyone have a 21mm deep socket spanner and plenty of muscle to try and remove this for me on both coilovers? I have no muscle to do this unfortunatly ( i have had the flu and still not got all my enegy back or it could just be me getting old now).

Isnt the large spark plug size 21mm?

Socket won't work unfortunatly as I then won't be able to get the slots that keep that shaft in place

I will ask around for a 21mm deep spanner

Air-gun or an impact driver will get it off.

But just forcing the nut around rotates the shaft as you can't keep the shaft in place without using the shaft locking slots which are 9mm spanner fitment and thus us located above the main shaft lock nut so this stops me using from any socket or any compressor tools

I'll get a pic up of what I mean

Re: Stiffer & shorter springs for Spax RSX

If you get stuck I've got a proper Facom spanner here that I used for doing my struts. Its a deep reach 21mm spanner with the side cut out so you can hold the 9mm section.

Like in the link below, its the side of the rounded section thats cut out if you get my drift.

Trust me, an air-gun or impact driver will free the nut as is, without worrying about clamping the 9mm slot.

I had exactly the same problem with a crusty old set of Avos I once had, but it took all of a few seconds once I slapped an impact driver on the nut.

Re: Stiffer & shorter springs for Spax RSX

Cheers for all the help and advice peeps she is back together and on the road again.

She is slightly lower at the front now and this has levelled the car out perfect I still have 1/2 the coilover adjsutable rod section to use to go lower if I want, think this well be it as had a few probs this morning bumps in roads, potholes, and a few cats eyes on the sidey centre box.
God knows how spooky manages it

my main reason for not going lower at the front is that there appears to be only a few mm between the top of my tyre and the lip of the front wing which I suppose I could attack eith a hammer

do you know what the fitted length is? I'd have thought you'd coilbind those. Does it use the bump rubbers? I'll try and find some numbers

Re: Stiffer & shorter springs for Spax RSX

not your springs, but the eibach catalogue will give you an idea

    http://eibach.com/eibach/img/ers-catalog-2004.pdf

their 6", 2 1/4"dia, 375lb/in spring has 3.44" of travel and is fully compressed with 1290lb, that being 585Kg in new money

your springs may be completely different..
