Agreed. Looks amazing mate. Top darts.
here is a link that scoff has sent me with the loom in place, he has done a great job in hiding the loom to keep the engine bay as empty as possible for me, and if all goes well i will have a video later today of the car up and running :D

Phil asked that I upload a video of it running, so here we go !

It looks like there might be some port wall wetting with the injectors being so far from the inlet valves (slight stumble after ovverun before idle returns and transient throttle being a pig to set) but I think that should improve once I get a map done. If not, Phil, you might want to think about adding an idle control valve so we can introduce some idle-calm down/dash pot effect.
Chris :)

Wow thank you Chris let's hope it behaves when mapping :agree::D
It's good to hear it running again Phil.:burnrubber:
Excellent Phil not long now :smokin:
Cheers logg and cheers dave for all the late nights you spent with me :eek:Lol on helping me get it back together :agree:
Be interesting to see how well she goes :agree:
Boost hose blown off at idle. Not a good sign :sad2:
received a pm from scoff last night letting me know the car now has a base map and has now been running for a good couple of hours with no real issues apart from idle is not as crisp as chris could get it but i think for now i can live with that but i do have good oil pressure and the engine temp is good as well and should be able to collect the car next thursday, so hopefully soon it will be on the rollers for some full throttle mapping and see how it goes :)
Excellent news Phillip.
cheers logg
As said on the phone matey sounding good, keep me posted on progress and results
Idle is fine phil, what I was saying was that idle was poor if I tried to lean it out to where I wanted it. That's just an injector thing, not worth worrying about :)

Scoff, u employing ghosts to do your mapping now lol
Evening all just received a pm from scoff the car had it's first mapping with boost today and mate quite some good power but it looks like I may need to look into a bigger compressor front end to find some more bhp but so far I'm really pleased as its making almost 270bhp at 25 psi but with some more mapping to come over the next few days hopefully Chris can find a few more bhp. Here are some pics so far :) cheers Chris

seems to get the pressure before it gets the torque? cam timing could be advanced more maybe?
impressive results tho :D:agree:
Cheers lads for your nice comments it's good to see all the work finally paying off, hopefully there still might be a little bit more to come from the mad scientist and I'm already searching now for a bigger front compressor housing :D

Great work guys. Hope to see it finished soon.
Phil, that is very good power matey for only 25psi, well done :agree::cooter:
seems to get the pressure before it gets the torque? cam timing could be advanced more maybe?
impressive results tho :D:agree:
Well yeah, it wasn't responding to any more boost at those lower RPM's so the gradual boost curve is deliberate (controlled by ECU). There wasn't any point in sticking 25psi in that early. It's also a result of the VNT, if you consider how it controls boost. As the vanes open it'll want to breath better and so torque doesn't drop of as quickly as it would with a smaller fixed turbine. The result is a longer, flatter torque curve.
It responded to the extra boost higher up though. Advancing the cam might ruin power output higher up so I don't think he should do that. His engine generally is working really well though, certainly carb-fed GTT's dont make anything like that power, but I think he could do better still if he bins the 60trim T3 and thinks about the cam profile a bit more. It wasn't responding to any more than 25psi.
It's so interesting all this stuff :agree:
WoW :agree: now that's a graph and a half 200 lb-ft for about 3k that's going to be a great road car. :smokin:
:smokin:
Must be a real animal to drive with all that torque through the ATB :agree:
Looking very good, Going to be a fantastic animal to drive.. :agree:
Phil asked me for a quick video of it on the dyno so here goes :)
Watch out for the sparks though, turns out the oil cooler pipes were arching with the ignition live on the top of the alt. I had to fit some insulated terminals after this run.

Sorry for being thick mate but I'm not to sure what you mean :laugh:
Just looks like the throttle cable is attached to the bulkhead. I thought u might get problems if the engine moves and opens/closes the throttle, perhaps there is plenty of slack?

ok mate yer i think it looks like its attached to the bulkhead but its not it just loops round near it and then is connected straight to the bracket on the inlet manifold :)

Do it in stages like me Brigsy. Within a year or so you'll be fully efi without skinting yourself to much.
As I said before phill this has got to be the ultimate road going five (c1j) with so much useable power. It'll be effortlessly quick.

Car is pretty much done now for this year just a couple of small things to iron out but then through the winter I'm gonna be looking into modding my vnt turbo to try and get it pushing 300 bhp and hopefully next year it will have a nos kit on it as well for pod. Still toying with the idea of lowering the rear but at the mo I kinda like the stance it's got :)

Cheers Wallace it took sometime alot of head banging and endless amounts of f***ings and blindings mate but I'm so chuffed myself of how well it came out and how well it runs with a fair bit of power to go with the look, I don't think I'll ever get bored with the car as it will never be a daily anymore just for shows meets national days and pod now so next on the list is find more power through the turbo and may look into having a cam built for me at the same time oh yer and some gas of course :wasntme:
Well had a few spare hours today to spend on my car after having a bit of a hesitation fault after breaking my map sensor and fitting a new one. But again the mad scientist was right in thinking I had fouled the plugs when I broke the map sensor and having the car running on idle with a broken map sensor killed my £100 Ngk plugs  by chucked in some cheap Bosch plugs from halfords and all is good and back to normal and thanks Chris for giving me a lovely mapped usable f***ing rapid 5 I love it :agree::agree:

Well the car has been in hibernation since September so I thought I'd get her out today and do a couple of small little jobs ready for this years meets and events :) for those of you that did know I had an issue where I had lost a lot of Power and could only boost to 19psi but I found the issue and it now appears to be running well and making full boost again :) found a boost pipe off :wasntme: its got no tax so I just took it up the end of the road and back and it felt very powerful god how I have missed not driving it. I actually agree with you guys after seeing it sitting there today both me and my dad said the back needs dropping about an inch or a tad more but may still also bring the front up a tad more
Little update for those of you who read performance French cars mag I finished my story off with the editor yesterday and tonight and the car will now be in the July issue probably towards the end of July :)
Phil

cant wait to see the 9 feature lol, but still dont beat seeing the 9 in the flesh:agree:
Evening chappies we are on route home from scoffs and to say I'm happy is an understatement for those of you who know me you know my goal has always been to try and brake the 300hp barrier with minimal lag with a Vnt still on a c1j and to sit here now knowing it made more feels a great achievement the cars had a right pasting today and probably took a good 30+ runs on board with no real issues the potential power was 309.9 bhp @32psi running slightly lean so a healthy 301.3 bhp was achieved and finally id like to say a massive thanks to mike at gt turbo spares for being a true gent and offering to get the car up there for me what a great guy and what a laugh we have had this weekend cheers to mike scoff and anyone else who's helped over the years I'm now in the c1j 300+ hp club

Well done mate!!:agree:
Know its been a long road for you with a few ups and downs but its finally done it!
Now bolt some tyres on and get it down the strip :D
Sounds and looks awesome and no doubt goes like stink:smokin:
Awsome motor :agree:
Can I ask a few questions about your set up?
When does it hit full boost and when does it make peak power as in rpm?
Just curious as to how it feels with the VNT.
Do you have graphs? :coffee:

Hi Phil its coming on boost slightly later now about about 3,500 3,600 and is still continuing to make peak power at 7.2k revs it potentially is still wanting to make more power but it has now maxed out the 3bar map sensor lol
phils asked me to post this vid up on the RTOC Youtube channel

realy awesome result mate! still pretty baffled by the chargecooling setup btw, seems to be doing well :agree:
Evening chaps I just wanted to say thanks to mike from surrey meet Marky mark James 5 and scoff for the phone calls tonight just went I thought everything had gone horribly wrong after a great success from the weekend it seems my problem was a loose connection on the afr gauge which was telling my ecu that I was basically on full throttle when trying to start it and would not run for love or money all sorted now though cheers guys
Just to give you guys a little run down of how amazing a c1j really can be when really played with all my engine mods have performed an amazing result to the point that with just running 10 psi pre load only the car was making 214 bhp it pulled a few consistent 300+ hp runs the most being 309.9 but a little to lean so a happy 301.3 was its favoured outcome all this come from no more than 7,200 rpm around a 7.7-1 comp ratio and boost level between 32-33.6 psi all still on a Vnt turbo with still minimal lag the engine performed at its best when charge temps were around 27% and still good but not as good when temps were reaching 35% so the charge cooler set up seems to be performing really well I have also cured my little burning oil issue on tick over which seemed to be a mixture of good high oil pressure but minimal back pressure on tick over causing oil to push past the turbo seals this was corrected by scoff just by setting the throttle slightly higher that's it from me now and I hope I can finally enjoy driving it again with a **** off smile on my face from here ................. To ................ Here watch out cossies there's a new Marshall in town ;):D
Awesome. Get a GoPro or car cam thing and create some in-car vids for us all to be envious of :D

Wow, just read all 19 pages of this thread. Cracking read and is really motivating me to get my 5 all finished. Not sure i will ever go the EFI route, but will see what happens when / if I get around to rebuilding the engine.
Awesome!
