No oil pressure or fuel! Lol. ;)
Ace.
The original oil gauge is redundant as I am running a new one mate seeing 60 psi cold and 30-40 psi when warm the car has loads of fuel in it but a sticky sender which will be cleaned or changed on Sunday :D
Just sorted my insurance out for the year with peter james in total it was £540.00 fully comp with a guaranteed value of 14,999.00 bit long winded with forms to fill out with all mods and photos but all done now so as from 5pm tonight it's all legit so a good day on Sunday and it's all complete :)

A nice set of Lenso BSX would look lovely... or splash out on some real BBS RS :pimp:
Well my thread has been a bit quiet lately but the car seems to be running really well now fitted my aem gauge and it's running very rich still but was very impressed as I had my first road race today with an 11 plate Audi a5 3.0 v6 which is 240 bhp and nearly 370 lb of torque and I left it like it was standing still and at only 14 psi so very pleased so far and just looking forward to putting it on the rollers now and seeing what power I get

Phil, that's such a ****ter matey after such a short amount of time, but VNT + very High comp C1J engine + standard ignition timing doesn't work. Lower that compression and look into mappable ignition matey unless you can afford to go EFI yet.
I feel for you matey i know the amount of time and money you have spent on the car at least you have had some good times and made some effort's in the car though:agree:

Er i ran a 9 to 1 ratio, standard timing and 20psi on my vnt for two years before i went efi and the only blow ups were my fault and the not the setup.
What comp ratio, you running fella?

I think Phil's setup is around 9:1 also and it det's below 14psi.
My old setup was 8.6:1 and detted over 21psi and ignition timing was fully retarded, I only blew mine up when I moved the ignition back to standard and every time within 5 miles of doing so H/G would go.
Er i ran a 9 to 1 ratio, standard timing and 20psi on my vnt for two years before i went efi and the only blow ups were my fault and the not the setup.
What comp ratio, you running fella?
I'm running 8.8:1 mate and I'm sure I could here det well before the boost was up to 15 psi afr's were reading around mid 10's to low 11's so well to rich temp gauge was fine and sitting on the first mark on the gauge but after a quick burst up the road it picked up a misfire and was just plooming out White smoke I have a feeling whatever it is it's to do with the cylinder 2nd along from the water pump as I done a comp test a while before and noticed that bore was a lot lower compared to the rest of the cylinders. If it's the h/g I'm not to worried and can probably get it running again the same day but my problem is what has caused this at only a bar of boost has anyone ever had this before ? Water bottle was completely pressurised and had thrown coolant out the expansion cap on the bottle
Engine has covered about 800 miles and had also had three oil changes
I had this problem last year it turned out the aei was shagged was pinking as the car built boost and on boost @ 13psi. Changed the aei and all was good.
But other issues could be are the timing sensor wires the right way round? bb tuning did timing sensors that where like this brand new in the packet or have you chopped it and switched the wires your self? I use to do this while running a engine in to just make go a bit better@ 0 to stock boost levels. Might be worth a check?

What a cnut fella. Shame to hear that you have done such a good job with the car as well. Was you using that copper gasket in the end matey? As stated try another aei fully retard the timing sensor and see how that goes.

From what Phil was saying on the phone yesterday the H/G used is a Payne type not sure if OK thickness or slightly thicker like uprated type yet.
Phil, when you take it apart you will have to upload pic's of the gasket and the bores, and the head.
Phil, I have a spare clio 16v coil pack matey, think you need to go mappable ingition
I still have the AEI off the Raider you can have Phil, let me know if you want it & I'll go over the yard & pick it up.

Phil, you might also want to think about getting some wire rings machined into the top of the liners.. Only prob is, is it's engine out job :(
stripped it down tonight and it looks like the cause is head gasket all steel liners are fine and pistons look fine just a bit black from over fueling head and valves all look fine aswell done a comp test a while ago and is showed that the cylinder second along from the water pump end was a lot lower like 30-40 psi lower and looking at the gasket it has a dented burn mark in it so would this of been why this cylinder was a lot lower on the comp test here are some pics you can see where the gasket has started going like an egg shape. this looks like it has been detting and i think its down to timming so im now on the hunt to see if i can get it efi'd asap so if any one has any efi parts they think they need to get rid of let me know what you have think i may end need to speak to scoff as im thinking of going adaptronic route
Dave Reed

Phil, there was an ecu and loom in the classifieds not so long ago, maybe worth a shot ;)
Ok car will now be off road for a while after deciding to go efi engine is soon to come out and have some more work done so hopefully it will be back up and running in a few months ready for next year quite excited now :)
Sounds good, how are you going to sort that engine to get the CR down though ?
(sorry I missed your call, was busy at the time, I did try to ring you back mate)
Going to be hard as the forgies and the block itself have all been skimmed down, and I know the chambers on the head have had alot of work shame to attack the head to modify the compression.
Sorry Phil missed your call was @ Steve's at the time you called:cooter::laugh:
Hope your ok phil after your AnE visit :) looking forward to more updates.. ohh darts soon?

Glad you're ok mate.
Ok a quick update a few goodies have arrived this week my adaptronic ecu wiring loom and 3 bar Cossie map sensor also got my brand new injectors yesterday siemens deka 550cc some more bits to be ordered on Tuesday so almost all the parts will be had within the next couple of weeks and then just be waiting on the manifold to be made so not to long I hope a big thanks to scoff for advice so far Will update when I have more parts and progress
Ordered all the sensors today with scoff so will hopefully see them by the weekend also managed to pick up a brand new Bosch 044 original fuel pump today for a great price and treated myself to a bracket for it as well so all that's left to get now is a fuel reg and the manifold made and that should be me dine with the parts for the efi now I just need to think what way I'm going with the engine :)
Sounds good and seeing the quality of your car i am sure it will be fantastic, still think you should ditch the c1j and go F7p turbo:agree:

Phil know's it make sense but I can see why he is sticking with the C1J after all the money he has thrown at the Big Jim spec C1J engine. F7 series engine makes so much sense I wish I had done it much sooner myself. You and revit hard Robbie need to take him out for a drive in your car's to show him what he is missing (well once you have finished yours that is).
Ok guys there will be another engine once the c1j is finished but it won't be going in my 5 that's all I'm saying for now ;)

You need to convince your old man to let you have that williams sitting out the front doing nothing it's ripe for a project OE looks but engine upgrade
Ok things are on the move again had big jim round last week looking at the best way to design the manifold he also had a look at the h/gasket that was on the car and it was the gasket itself which was at fault so nothing to do with high comp, fuel or timing any way engine came out last last cheers dave h for lending a hand so now going back to jim on Tuesday for another rebuild more head and cam work and to get the manifold mate so will update with pics when the progress moves forward about a month or so till I get it back
Cheers Phil

got the adaptronic on yet?
got the adaptronic on yet?
Not yet mate but soon hopefully I have quite a few mods I can be getting on with though why the engine is away
Ok engine now down with big jim went over to his unit today and dropped it off very excited for what other extras are to come from this little engine only time will see if it's all worth it I am dreading the extra pie and mash I'm gonna be spending though but oh well will be old and boring one day will try and keep this updated looking forward to seeing the inlet manifold design and now possibly loosing the current 4 branch exhaust manifold and going for a bigger one off design
Cheers Phil

just looking at your gasket and pistons, not knowing anything else i'd of said there was water on the centre two cylinders being burnt, which usually would mean a warped head. make sure your head is nice and straight. and if you have had the block skimmed check the outer two cylinder liners arent protruding higher than the centre two. Im sure its all fine but its best to check :D
ok small update after now deciding to go efi the main block has had all its extra work done and is now complete and is just in need of a few brackets and the inlet and exhaust manifolds to be made so should be looking towards the end of feb for getting it back and then the fun begins :sad2::D

Good choice of rims mate, always liked them! Did you go for a staggered set?
Sorry John not to sure what you mean by staggered if you mean are the rears wider there not mate there 8's all round
Evening chaps just wanted to give a bit if an update got the stretched Tyres fitted to the new rims today and I think they look fit bolted one on the rear and they sit perfect and it looks like I could drop the car 2-3" more from standard height and the rims still don't really hang outside the arches so no mods to the body kit look needed only downer at the moment is I need to now by some 5mm spacers as the inner of the wheel spoke catches the brake caliper so when I get some spacers I'll get some good pics also still waiting on 3 spigot rings to turn up
And secondly I have heard that the engine is pretty much complete and will be ready to collect this saturday or next Saturday :D let the fun begin
I'll uploads some **** pics tomorrow of the wheel on the car

had a play around with the wheels last night trying to get them to fit without failing anything fronts straight on no probs no catching and no rubbing but with the rears out came the grinder as i needed to shave the pad carrier down slightly as they were catching on the inner of the spokes
will get some better pics through the week when the car is out the garage
last ones also felt like crying last night as i dropped one of the wheel bolts and took a small bit of laquer of the lip of the wheel

rolled the car out the garage today just to turn it around to work on the other side during the week, so took some pics of the car with the rims on still think if i want to be cheeky i could still space them out more to get them out the arches a bit more ill see in due time would you agree the ride hight looks spot on  dont know why all you boys fuss about lowering the 5's :D
Phil mate your 5 looks much better with them wheels on it:cool:. How low are you going to go with it.

Really don't know yet mate as I think 50mm at the front or all round things will start getting battered which I don't want so maybe 30-40mm at the front and may do the same at the back but I have always liked the back at standard and then just drop the front more
Dont bring the wheels out any further, they sit fine. :agree:

Just a small update for the mo my gearbox should hopefully be ready for collection tomorrow evening thanks to a top bloke Matt @ Codered and finally got hold of the chap building my engine and the inlet manifold was finished tonight and the 3 things left now before I can collect it is 1 water temp sensor that needs fitting in the side of the head a set of 10mm magnecor leads to be ordered and fitted and the exhaust manifold should be finished by middle of next week or next weekend :)
Will uploads pics as soon as he sends me some
spent a day on the 5 today finishing of the brakes on the rear to get the rims to fit all done now and painted all the brake calipers again to freshen them up, also finished some wiring in the scuttle to neaten that up and then cleaned the bay and the subframe ready for the engine to come back hopefully next weekend, also got my gearbox back tonight from matt@codered so next week will try and do new fuel set up and start getting the nitrous ready for plumbing in

cheers dave hopefully ill have an engine to crack on with in the next month or so
Sorted that for ya mate :wasntme:
Ok the day has finally arrived and I now have my engine back after a Long long long long time  but I think the inlet manifold has come out really nice only bad thing is the company can't and won't make me an exhaust manifold now so after selling my last tubular one to help fund the new one I will now have to by one but I have found one which I will order tomorrow and hope it fits or will only need minor adjustments. I have had quite a lot more done to the engine this time round so hoping if all goes well I should have quite a quick 5 also finished my fuel system off and as soon as my laptop stops messing around I'll load up some pics, so now the race is on to see if I can get all the work done and get the car up to scoff if he can fit me in before the fete day as I will be rather pissed off seeing everyones 5's there and not mine
last pics for now hope you like

Progress being made... Looks the nuts mate! I am sure you'll be more than happy once its all done and your clocking up the mileage ;)
Thats a nice fannymold shame build time took a little while. :(
Good luck getting it all together if there's anything I can help with just shout mate.
Phil, looking good shame taken so long for fabrication of parts does look good, out of interest what size injectors and what TB are you using?
As per Logg's over if you need a hand doing anything I am more than happy to help matey:agree:
Looks well mate :agree: Id be welding the trigger wheel to the bottom pulley, and then the pulley to the sleeve if not already done as they can slip.

the company who done the work have made a locating dowel mate behind the pully so the trigger wheel cannot come off or slip as i was going to get it welded but this was the neater option

TB is quite common and is found on most renaults from an early meagane/laguna but this actually came from an 03 plate scenic which is still the same from an ealy 90's megane plus i went for this as the throttle cable is the same fiiting as the 5 and goes straight on the 5 pedal it,s a 50mm TB and injectors are siemens 550's
cheers for all your coments guys :)

nice work phil,
what is ET value of those wheels you got? and what is the tyre size?
i'm probely gonna buy a 7,5J 15 set with Et33 and 195/45 tyres

Hi sieger they are 8j's by 15's with an ET of 25 and the tyre size is 185/45/15's 75v the only place I could find to supply this size tyre was nankang and the Tyres were shipped it from Germany total cost for 4 was £180.80 Inc vat and post I think it's helped with the 185's as there is more on the stretch for the rear arches
Hope this helps mate let me know if you need any help
Phil :)
okay tx will keep that in mind :):agree:
i suppose they wil fit, because i have 7,5 J and et 33, thats in total 2 cm smaller.
Fair do's mate proper job :agree:
Cheers John let's hope it all fits and works :laugh:
some more goodies have arrived today my new 10mm magnecor leads made to measure all set lengths then i had some vacuum pipe arrive and i got my new exhaust manifold today 38mm, inch and half pipe work so should allow the engine to breath better now rather than being strangled by the old inch pipe work k-tec one i used to have really please with the manifold as there is half the amount of welds compared to the ktec or raceland ones and bigger :)
work on the car starts as from tonight so hoping to have the engine back in by wednesday
cheers for looking
phil

thank you mate i chose to run them both as i wanted to try something different than a front mount as i like the oe look at the front without the front mount on show, so far it seems to be proving good with where i have located the charge cooler at 15psi of boost i didnt see any charge temps higher than 34% so with more boost to be run this time round i hope they dont shoot through the roof but only time will tell :)
She's looking fit mate I cant wait to see her running. :)

Not long to go then mate and you'll be back on the road in 5. Whats left to do then mate.
almost there now so looks like im on schedule for wednesday to drop the car to scoff.
things left to do by tuesday night
1 repair a pinched water pipe for charge cooler
2 fit bracket to hold outer throttle cable sleeve
3 fit vnt turbo elbow and connect to down pipe
4 wire both fuel pump lives together and run them to dash area for ecu
5 finally add water, coolant and bleed system add engine oil and gear box oil
then finished and if the car behaves itself up at scoffs i will should have it ready for the FETE meet :D

jp racing ran that set up back in the day running upto 30psi showing no air temp problems on the iat gauge at all
he was using the pace chargecooler and pace o.e sized intercooler, t28 sized blower and 285 cam:) inspect the plate that devides the inlet/outlet ports on the intercooler every so often though if you intend to push it to that level, as his broke the welds, and all the boost blew straight through the top of the core:laugh::laugh::laugh:;)
Looks amazing mate!! Wished my engine bay looked that good!!

Well just walked in what a long day left at 6.30 this morning was good to meet Chris and have a good chat about what the plan of action is for the next 10 days he was pleased with the inlet manifold design and thinks it should work really well so thanks to jim for that I think the only concerns at the moment is how the vnt will work but I suppose it's suck it and see for the mo and see how it responds to some big Boooost
Cheers all got some pics of it at scoffs unit but can't load until tomorrow

morning all here is a few pics of the car on its way and a couple of pics at efi parts workshop

Was going to ask how you were planning on controlling the VNT, if it behaves like mine did, your boost will increase as normal but instead of stopping at 14psi (or what ever the actuator is set to) it'll just keep climbing

Phil is running a different actuator setup to what yours and mine was running Ollie. Phil's actuator works the same as it would on a diesel car were as our actuator pushed the vanes open and actuator are limited the vane opening to control boost / flow level, Phil's one pull's close like a diesel to limit boost. I am sure Chris aka Scoff will sort it out, surprised no one is using some kind of electronic actuator like some of the VW's and others use that come from factory. If a manufacturer can control a vnt Scoff is more than capable of doing so:agree::D
