    Re: New R5 Project II

Sometimes the R5 really pisses me off and I wonder why I started doing this project.

The parts overhaul seems never ending.

Anyway a little progress over past week. Painted hubs and driveshafts. Also overhauled steering rack and fitted new gaitors. Big thanks to Thundercat for getting track rod ends off.

Also had spare took off the tyre ready to go to powder coaters - subframe and a few other parts will be off there as well.

Cleaned up tanks ready for refitting.

Also prepped my first lot of parts to be zinc plated.

Photos for anyone interested in the slow progress!

Had a spare few hours today so tackled a job i've been putting off for a while.

So it was windscreen out. Needs a little welding but overall quite good.

    Also trial fitted me doorcards

    Photos for those interested.

    Little Progress yesterday

Cleaned and prepped all inner wings and then refitted front wings after a bit of bonnet alignment everything is all good.

Also got a front windscreen inner seal - new old stock. So should be able to have a complete OE seal for the windscreen.

    Few pics for anyone interested.

Few parts purchased today including a new pair of genuine Renault wings and a few other new parts.

Also got an Oil pump date stamped 2002 and a steering gaitor that I was missing. Cleaned up really nice!

    Pics for anyone interested!

Seeing your thread James makes me want to start mine up again. Wouldn't even know where to begin now but your thread is great and so it the parts collection.

Those new parts were a bargain; especially the wings.

Do new stock renault 5 front wings not have the side indicator holes then? Are you going to cut them James or leave them without side indicators?

    Little Progress

Decided to take a load of parts to Powder Coaters - So £150 later and I have loads of Powder Coated parts.

So set about to fit the first refurbished parts to the 5 (have nowhere in the house to store the subframe) - Re assembley has started at last!

Always liked Morettes and these came up at right price in excellent condition.

Its going to be more fast road than OE - but with ability to go 100% OE in future if I ever decide to. This is idea on look. Will be running Turbines

Cheers, am hoping to make abit more progress these coming months before winter sets in.

Yes will be silver turbines on a lowered 30mm stance.

I need to speak to plating company but I've prepped alot of the brackets myself to remove pitting and rust. Have a box of bolts and nuts I'm going to take also. Have been told price is based on weight and reckon I've got 15kg of stuff to goto platers.

You've got to love morettes - although getting decent condition ones is very very hard. If I get chance at weekend will mock front up with morettes on.

Unfortunately I didn't although when placed side by side you can make out which is left and right by position of bolt holes. I took references photos before they went for powder coat. As I have with just about everything in this build.

As you say hard to find a good set, I grabbed mine a few months back on ebay pretty much brand new, not cheap to buy and then I had the covers professionally sprayed again not cheap, but end result look great and night time driving so much brighter

    Little progress this weekend

All brackets have gone to zinc platers.

So in preparation to getting front end sorted I decided to underseal both front arches and then under seal up to the handbrake mechanism - will do rest of car when rear beam is off.

Also mocked front with Morettes on. Really happy how that all looks, cleaned up fuel pumps and fuel pipes and finally refurbished handbrake as it was a tad rusty.

    Few pics as always
