    whats with this jap lingo???

hey folks, i keep seeing people with jap cars saying stuff like "vtec yo!!!" "JDM"

whats the meaning of this "vtec yo"

now i kno what jdm means, but is all this jap lingo just people bumming off each other and following the crowd and saying it for the sake of it?

What does JDM mean? I have seen the terms USDM and UKDM or something like that so I presume the prefix to DM is the country of origin or use? what does DM mean, dungeon master?

JDM is a company which specialises in Japanese cars

VTEC is the design of honda engine, its something to do with the cams adjusting or using a different part of the cam which gives it a lot more lease of life after a certain amount of revs

I am sure the Evo lads will clear this up but i am think it has somthing to do with buying Jap manufacturer only parts. More of an emphesis on usable performance parts rather then asthetics, function over fashion

Ah ha thanks for that. I was familiar with the VTEC engine itself as I always fancied a VTEC powered motor myself.

translates to 'i like to wait till the end of my revs to even begin to accelerate, vtec helps me up hills as i have no torque'

obviously that doesn't include the backyard boys and their turbo'd rocketship!

JDM dose stand for japanese domestic market so companies that specilise in jap stuff like to adopt it even when the stuff there selling is aftermarket so in definition can not be "JDM" so:

JDMPerformance = japanese domestic market preformance
Password JDm = Password japanese domestic market

As for Vtec YO! its just a gay thing that chaves say to decribe the magic thing that happens on a b-series engine at 5500rpm (my other car is a 220bhp civic sory )

    vvt and vtec are different

vvt uses the same cam profiles but vtec switches to a different profile

I cant see what the attraction is anyway. Who would want a car which is turbocharged, 4 wheel drive and stuffed full of technology?

Oh God i am driving the wrong car!

VTEC Yo lol its such a crap catch phrase surely they could of come up with something better?

On a slightly different note what do people think to s2000 clocks was thinking of getting some for my track car project, I am aware of the speedo and temp gauge problems which require aftermarket gubbins just wondered what people thought of them?

a mate of mine traded his evo 6 for a s2000(running costs caught up with him) and the dash does seem bloody trick looking, he has been getting drilled with the hair dresser insults ever since lol!

Cool thanks mate, as far as I can tell I need Speedohealer V4 with universal harness and a Modifry ECT Module for the temp gauge.

I want an AP2 dash but have yet to find one with plugs and some loom.

Yea I have done a little

That name Mark Lamond is familiar. I was reading a thread earlier dating back to 2004 and there was a picture of an AP1 rigged to an oscilloscope and all sorts of gadets, it was his work bench!

Thanks for the link I think i'm definitely going to go for it now, any snags I'll be heading your way

Oh and just noticed less than 10 posts, welcome to RTOC!
