Looking into purchasing new front brake pads and discs for the Clio 172 for this weekends trackday. I'll fit Brembo Max discs and was thinking of purchasing EBC 'Yellow' shtuff
Yes or no to the yellow? £75 a set, Ferodo DS2500 are coming in at £115 all in

Got to be better than the green stuff.

DS2500 are very good though.
I always here good things about Ferodo, maybe i shouldn't be so tight
Was thinking the Yellows might be on par with the DS and save me a little cash at the same time.
I've got DS2500 on the GTA fronts and they work better than anything else I've tried .This is on std weedy original calipers as well .
Just out of interest, where is the best place to get ds2500`s from ?? Have looked on ebay but cant see any for the 5GTT.

never would i pay over 100 quid for pads, i just bought some today at £15 for fronts. i went for the lucas/trw ones, used them on tons of cars and they have been spot on. i will almost guarantee they are not as good as the yellow stuff or ds2500 when hot but there is a huge price differance so im happy. big dan c is using pads for like a fiver on his track car and hes happy too.
Crash, gone are the days of buying brake pads for the GT, now owning the 172 the prices for pads, discs etc is a lot more. I despise having to pay over a ton for brake pads but it seems that's the going rate for DS2500's for the 172
Front brake discs £95 a pair
Front pads £115 a pair
Rear discs with bearings from Renault are £200 the pair
Pads are £50
Clio 172 prices, i know i'd pay much less if i still owned the 5
never skimp on the things that stop you from totaling into other cars/pedestrians/housesget ure cash out tight ass, if ure guna be driving quick go for ds2500, fine for fast road an mild track use, if u want ultimate stopping without going to multi pot calipers use carbon lorrain rc6 pads, if u wana stick ure car into an armco use any colourd brand front pad in my opinion

I had DS2500 on the 5, awesome pads, best i've used. My brother had red stuff on his Rover 420 T & they fell apart... he's never used EBC since.

Pagid race pads are worth a look if they are cheap. (prob not though)

i think thats just rubbish mate, i found oe pads better on the street than track pads for a start they bite from cold and dont need warming up to work, so that means im less likely to hit pedestrians/houses on cold brakes and if you get ur brakes that hot on the street that they fade i think you need to slow downOriginally Posted by Adey aka Ewok

i used crappy mintex at cadwell last week, they did fade quite alot after loads of laps but look at the corners involved compared to mallory,i would use the ferrodo pads if they were cheaper, but i will be using my 15 quid pads and i know they will be up to the job.
feel free to take my car up the road totaly stone cold on sat morning, see how my track pad fairs stone cold

I'd much prefer the big brake route but seeing as it'll cost about £4k I'll have to stick with decent pads @ around £80
thats cool was just giving info on what i use and have used in the past. the rc6s bite very hard in the cold and even better when there hot, darren from omex has driven the carow a fair few times n and has asked for the same setup to be put on there demo car. i use my toy as an everyday motor too so if i didnt feel they were safe id be tryng somthing else, only thing is due to there compound they squeel like pigs on light braking if i was concerned about that id defo be using the ds2500., had personal use of them in other cars and they were the bollocks, like ive said also the green yellow red pads ive used before have been **** in my opinion good initial bit but waste out within seconds when constant pressure is applied, i use the brembo max disks also riccy
thats a fair comment and i would love to try the ds pads but i guess im to tight.
i once tried red dot ones on my pug, cost me like 70 quid from halfords and they were the worst pad ever, hot old cold hard or soft braking, they were just crap, went back to my 15 quid lucas ones and never complained
The yellow pads seem to be what the 944/968 lads fit on there porkys but in imo ive drove both cars very hard and there are not any better then oe pads... as for the others mentioned in thread i cant say, im yet to reach a corner in my clio

All comments are welcome, i know i mentioned EBC but the thread title is about brake pads and i guess people have used and or prefer certain makes

Ricky, don't go with EBC; trust me on this mate
Pagids are good, DS2500's are very good, and if they're available for Renault's, Performance Friction pads are possibly even better than that.

It was Eug that pointed out the smoke before you got out of the car, that's when he took the temp' reading of 600 degrees. You then said that they didn't fade, despite the smoke and temp', and you couldn't believe they were Greenstuff's.I remember it well. Ds2500 are awesome pads, when i used mine last year at the rock i didn't get any fade whatsoever. Downside of them is they wear the discs rapidly & a bit squeaky. Excellent from cold too.
Ive fitted some mintex 1144's to the van, as recommended by Paul B. Haven't used them in anger on the track yet, but not as squeaky as the ds2500, seem pretty good from cold & plenty of stopping power on the road, looking good up to now. Also a bit cheaper than the ds2500 so its all good.

EBC are terrible, Had Green stuff and drilled discs on my 11T at a trackday and they were terrible, Mart experienced this as he got blacked flaged twice from constantly crashing into cones
The misses has EBC on her A3 all round and they are just as bad, never hear good things about EBC.
Mintex 1144`s are a superb brake pad and well worth looking into, stuck them on my Jap Crap and the car actually stops now, the bite is superb. very similar to Ferrodo`s DS2500, but quite a bit cheaper.
Greenstuffs were part of a big money advertising splach in Lax Flower, hence why they got popular for a while.
Then people realised they were actually quite schit.

I had some V1 Greenstuffs back in the day on some EBC turbogroove discs. Did 3-4 trackdays at Donington plus 5000 road milesbefore I wore them out, pretty damn good as that track is real hard on brakes. No fade or anything. I don't drive slowly either
The later stuff is proper pants though, avoid!!!!! I've still got the disks on the car tho. Think they've done a good 10 trackdays and 20k miles road use. Really good actually.
Not tried the DS2500's, but the pagid race pads are the tits!

i use mintex 1144 fast road pads......brilliant....wear well, not too much squeal in normal use.....use standard discs and very impressive feel even when cold.
before each trackday i deglaze them as instructed....2nd gear,30 mph sharp brake,do this 5 or 6 times and then go play..
Have some DS2500 ready to replace these when they wear out......done around 8 trackdays so far on these too....
