    downpipe and exhaust manifold wrapping

Speaking to a friend of mine last night who I see in my eyes has alot of experience in the motor trade has told me not to wrap my downpipe as it may cause more lag
He said to wrap parts before the turbo but not after!?!

Also wrapping the manifold will this cause it to crack or only in extreme cases?

Tell your mate to phone himself up and have a word. If you can find a wrc car without the exhaust system insulated and for that matter the turbo I will eat my hat

The purpose of the heat wrap is to keep the energy in the gas and/or confined - the hotter you can keep the exhaust gas the faster it can flow

so i'd keep the wrap on myself

what about cracking off the manifold if that is heat wrap?

Maybe a pony stainless mainfold made out of pony grade stainless would crack with no bracing but I doubt an o.e cast mainfold would crack unless fettled with in an inch of its life

I had the o.e manifold wrapped for at least 50 thousand miles with no problems. Trackdays & pod days in that time, loads of abuse.

Mines also completely lagged, reduces underbonnet temps massively as well!

My manifold and down pipe are wrapped , no problems so far and it makes a huge difference to under bonnet temps.

Im not sure the paint can withstand the temperature of a glowing manifold and turbine housing 400-500 degrees.
