    Driveshafts

After destroying the cv joint on the n/s driveshaft during my last race.

Can I get a new cv joint put on the shaft as its been shortened due to the Gripper diff. If yes, does anyone know of any companys London area who could do the work.

If not I guess its new shaft and cut to size again.

    Many thanks
    Dave

the outers are pressed on a spline. the shaft is hollow, the cv has a spline comming out of it that is pressed into the hollow shaft. I think you'd have to heat it off. Never tried, but I know it's do-able.

Why not send the shaft to Mudslinger and get his man to do it and bung mudslinger a drink for his trouble, just a thought.

Have you tried london props, are over in wimbledon, one of my mates had some shafts done over there for a 2.0litre nova a few years ago... might be worth giving them a shout

Have you got rack stops in the ends of your steering rack? I know they were/are a common method of reducing the likelyhood of high torque from the spider cracking the yoke, as they don't let the spider get too close to the end of the yoke in it's weak spot. Having said that I am not sure what size they turned them too for the cup cars, I'd guess 10-12mm, but the manual doesn't mention them.

    Re: Driveshafts

At a geuss why should Cv joints break.

    1 - no grease
    2 - bad engine mounts
    3 - ??????

I have had 1 fail due to split cv gaitor, and i belive i shafted another not long ago due to engine mounts worn and old.

Any other thoughts any one ??

    Re: Driveshafts

Bearing in mind, Dave's car is a full on track racer so has constant wear and pressure on the front end components.
