    172 Conversion

Just wondered if there was going to be an article type thread all about the 172 engine transplant, as it's been done whether peeps would be happy to list everything needed to make the conversion work, pics, costs involved.

I have, not 172 related as it happens but in the last week i was thinking of doing another conversion. Maybe it's because i'm bored driving a 'reliable' 172 about everyday

I was gonna mention the TDi conversion, but then you said about being bored with reliability

I'm all for the TDi conversion but would imagine the costs would be much higher than the 172 option

There was a 1.9 TDi lump on Ebay last week. Was, and still am, pretty tempted to try & shove one of those into the Megane.

172 conversion into a clio, R5 would be pretty similar apart from the mountings, it would go in on the same mounts used for the F7P conversion

    Re: 172 Conversion

It depends how you do it, whether you go with the stock 172 ECU meaning you need to get around the imobiliser or go standalone.

Getting the engine in isn't really a problem the box is the same so you can use the gtt mounts and you use the gtx front mount. The only bit you would need to fabricate would be the downpipe and manifold.

Then you need a better fuel pump, wire it all in and sort the coolant pipes.

Its a good conversion, theyt are great engines, my R5 was pretty quick even when it was NA!!

    Re: 172 Conversion

    What about the extra understeeer?

The 172 is quite a bit heavier.
