James, get your exhaust sorted and get on that strip :P sure one of the guys can fix it on the day (even though I couldn't )

If I manage to fix mine I will prob be slower than last year LOL

I have never really cared if I am the fastest etc just enjoy the event and banter - I will take defeat well if that 5800bhp rx7 kicks my arse oh and of course a good bench for mods carried out as RR only tell half the story........

There is always a car of similar times to have a play against so do not see it putting off newer members and nothing to say that they will not be quicker than the regulars

    ALL about the fun

If they're new members, chances are I don't know them or the spec of their car/engine, so I'm basing the fastest cars on the day of those that I do know about.

It's just a bit of fun anyway.

Unless I'm misreading what you meant?

    Lol, why the fuss?

It's just a bit of fun, and who's to say that the newbies aren't running some ridiculous engine setup and will show you all up anyway?

So who's excited about tomorrow? Put your hands up! Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Well still putting the car back together, fitted the oil circuit back up, fired it up for a little while, couldn't see any leaks, but need to run it for a while longer, didn't want to make the neighbours angry, running without an exhaust at 10pm getting the cracks welded up in the exhaust today, then put that back, sort out some wiring so it doesn't melt and then leave it running and fingers cross its all good.

rod's come through the block, suspect that either the piston has let go, or something piston/rod/cap related has failed. this week has just been a series of nightmares, will be glad to see the back of it.

wrong thread I know, sorry, but looks like the rod has maybe given up, piston sections that have come out look clean, not like it's melted or locked up. Or maybe the piston gave up. Either way both rod and piston are in many pieces. the remainder of the rod still spins on the crank OK, so bearings hadn't failed. Hoping the one-off crank will be re-usable.

come on mud, always nice to see your car.

    adey, no.3.

I had some tea then nipped out and took the cyl head off to investigate. Head has survived, minor scuffs only. Turbo is OK too, no sign of crap working its way through manifold.

Pistons and chambers show no sign of detonation, cylinder bore is clean and still has it's hone, although block is cracked right the way from front to back where the rod has gone through at the bottom. Either the rod or the piston has let go, guess it was to be expected at some point.

unsure, log file corrupted because I shut the ignition off before pressing "stop". I'm not able to watch gauges really. I think about 6500rpm, but I don't think the issue is one of RPM.

Whoa!! That looks pretty sh1tty Scoff, sorry you won't be able to make a few runs down

I was looking forward to watching you do a few runs especially after all your effort on getting the clutch sorted in-time!

Do you think it was the fact that finally the engine was putting all it's power down through the new clutch that it forced a weak link in the chain somewhere??

I'm sure you'll have plenty to do whilst your down at Pod tomorrow! If you want to have a play with an Emerald ecu just let me know!

Thats a real shame Scoff mate, sorry to see what happened to the engine. Was looking forward to seeing how it went with all the improvements you done.

Its not been all good down here too, Mini is refusing to play ball and not spark so had to throw in the towel with the old girl, me and Rich then decided to run his Radier so popped to Tommy's rollers to stretch its legs and check the fueling, once geting another 40bhp out if it from tweeking the carb and all running good the gaskets decideds to blow out on the last run before home time! Looks like its had passed problems which have been covered up
Looks like we'll be car-less tomorrow too, never mind still be a good day

No thats ok mate i got a gasket here but all the pistons have evidence of detting on them, some are pitted up on the back edge quite bad. We think this is from a past problem as we had no evidence of detting on the rollers at all, plus liner number 2 has scores on it, either way its not worth slapping it back together best sort the whole lot out.

Its still up there, will be sorting its return at some point buts its all safe up there.

Thats a bugger scoff, i was one looking forward to seeing it run as were many others but looks like a bad day for both of us.

Still it was making some good progress untill it blew and yet theres a little more to come. As we stood there we were glad it happened on the rollers rather than up the strip...hay ho and another avent my 5 will be missing

I know its cheeky, but is anyone bringing along a laptop with a serial port? Laptop I was using has decided it doesn't want to read the USB to serial converter, and a spare laptop I got is overheating and shutting down when trying to load a fresh windows copy on it, as it was corrupt.

I might of made it in the end but I destroyed a new driveshaft last weekend and haven't been home from work yet!
