Santa pod 9/5/09, well done gianni santi

I was at santa pod doing some tuning today, I met gianni santi, the itilian R5 drag racer and his team. They recognised me and said hello, I'd already spotted their car so I knew who they were, great bunch of guys Gianni was competing in the king of europe event. Today he posted an 11.1 ET @ 130mph from a a C1J and original carburettor. I'll say that again, he posted an 11.1 @ 130mph from a C1J and original carburettor! Ok, with a lot of nitrous too. He made a whole bunch of passes with no aparant mechanical issues at all. Respect where it's due !

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any good passes because my new clutch slips like a good-un out on track, I had to feed power in gently to try and get some good logs for mapping. Thankfully the tuning went OK, now I have only a couple of weeks to find and fit a better clutch.

wow, have you updated the 1/4 mile table Chris

What clutch were you using, thought the VAG ones would take the abuse?

Not yet ashy, I could do with getting in contact with him and getting the rest of the info from him.

my clutch is a 228mm sachs 4-paddle, I need to look into vw clutches and find out what the high powered VR6 turbo guys use, it should fit in my gearbox.

Aye, thats the engine thats going in the clio isn't it! He was telling me that he's building a new engine for Mike with even more power

Thats the one. regardless of power even the old engine is going to be making more torque than mine so whatever Mike uses in that one currently should be OK. Having said that, my current clutch worked OK on the road and yet it gave up instantly when it had to deal with slicks and a sticky track. I think I need to invest in something brutal, I don't want to be changing it again in a few months time.

Bah the italians need not worry, I'm no renault-5 technically speaking, they're welcome to the 5GTT record. Gianni's friend was telling me he's been tuning that car for 20yrs. not many people I'd take my hat off to, but he is one of them for sure.

I take no prisoners!! you can hear the clutch throwing the towel in during 2nd gear in that video. (note I only use 3 gears for the whole track). I shifted into 3rd early and out of boost, if I wind the boost up slowly like that then the clutch seems to hold. I got some good data from the logs from a couple of runs, the last one being that run

Congrats to Gianni Santi. Normally i was also at the Pod with my 5 for King of Europe. But had engine problems. Last year Gianni told me he makes 8000rpm with that C1J engine.

I was looking at those rob, I hadn't found a retailer though. I read some bad reviews actually, but I'm sure if I searched for pretty much any other brand I'd find bad reviews of them all. I've ordered something pretty industrial from helix today.

I recon it could, if he found abit more traction i recon it'll dip into the 10's, you can here it spin on the way up.

Wonder how much Nos is running through the engine, i had a chat with Turbo Ted tonight who saw the Nos set up on it and it sounds abit special

That is certainly a 10second car with real drag slicks on, maybe even 10.8 with his trap speed.

Stuart might be able to beat gianni's ET but I don't think anyone with a c1j is likely to get close to gianni's trap speed though, that is just outstanding.
