Anyone got v8 range rover experience?

    First post!

Just bought myself a 4.6 v8 range rover with LPG conversion. Got it at a VERY good price as it has suspected head gasket problems? went tonight to look and to me it seems to have ignition probs? you start it up and it runs like a dog, if you try to rev it it very slowly revs and tries to die. Im thinking poss coil pack problem or may timing problem? Anyone got experience with them or know of a common fault? It has has plugs and leads already by the looks of it. Cheers

shame its had plugs and leads......the old plugs may hold the clue to the puzzle..

LPG only runs through once the engine has started on petrol....as you havent had it warmed up really it maybe a normal "sensor" type fault and be an easy fix with a diag tool......

if its an LPG fault then you'll need a specialist..

first thing we do is double check all the LPG connections...we have seen the LPG pipework directly tapped into the inlet manifold...no problem if they actually tighten the unions to make it air tight ....
so,spray some brake cleaner / WD40 around these and see if the running fault goes away or the engine revss itself up ....

still could be a head gasket or 2 though

Been on a land rover site and it seems that the MAF sensor can cause these symptoms. Im not convinced on the head gasket(s) tho? Im sure its not an LPG fault as it didnt run over to gas at all. Would be nice if it was a simple fix, tho i didnt pay alot for it so if i have to spend a few quid i cant grumble!

Check that the plugs are copper and not platinum as once platinum plugs start breaking down their knackered, if they are copper set the gaps to 0.7mm. You say it doesn't switch over to gas, is it a closed loop system or injection? do the lights at the switch on the dashboard show anything? if so what? Also check the position of the reducer/s, ideally they should be below the header tank, check that you don't have an air lock as that affects these engines a lot. Hope that helps Scott

Check that the plugs and leads are the right ones.I have one of these but in 3.5l and they are very plug fussy. You must go original with plugs.Generally they are **** when cold but fine once all sensors are up to temp.

All sorted! all it was is the bloke had not checked the oil and it took 3.5 liters. The hydraulic lifters were not operating correctly hence the rough running. Did a comp test to be sure and all is very good. Now have a healthy sounding V8 rumbling away
