    Tomcat Help

    First post!

    Just bought a tomcat turbo and as i understand thinfgs now have 2 options.

    To use the tomcat complete and fit the entire thing in place of my current t2.

    To use the compressor wheel and houseing from the tomcat and fit them into place onto my t2 core etc

    Which would people recomend?

    And does any1 have any advice or some kind faq as to how to do eiather of the above.

    If it helps id like the final turbo unit to produce 20 psi.

    Just fit the entire unit in place of your T2, matey use the parts of the T2 to get it fit properly such as the water feeds & banjo bolts. You will also need to source the following:

    Oil drain adaptor for the tomcat as different to the T2 (ebay or turbo supplier),
    Oil feed adaptor as you will notice the core is a different thread to the T2 (Pirtek),
    Rotate the compressor housing,
    Drill & tap the compressor housing for the actuator bracket to be re-positioned,
    Remove and blank of the re-cir dump valve,

    Run no more than 1bar boost as if it is in standard form it will not like anymore as they are normally of higher mileage cars which have a had a pretty easy life and they have no 360 bearing.

    If you get a decent turbo in the 1st place & don't want to run uber boost yeah, they don't seem to last very long otherwise....

    Thanks lads, i think i will end up rebuilding it b4 i fit it anyway, so id expect ill fit a 360 bearing when i do.

    ive always heard that these tomcat units give up the ghost pretty sharpish.!

    I have got through 2 Tomcat turbo's. They never ran much over 1 bar and did not seem to robust (actually i did starve one of oil ) I have used Nissan Turbo's (200sx) and ran more boost. Far more reliable in my experience.

    Imho, no.

    The tomcat blower isn't that great a unit to start with, and is never gonna be knocking on the door of high power either.

    As V Man mentioned, a better alternative are the 200sx/Silvia turbos, or maybe even the smaller turbo that was fitted to the latter escort cosworths.

    Failing that, for the price that new turbos are these days, especially from over the pond, it's probably more cost efficient in the long run to sniff one out to the exact spec you want, plus then being in the safe knowledge that it hasn't clocked up abuse mileage from the previous car it was fitted on.
