    Re: Carb service

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

hiya any help please. i have rebuilt my carb used carb service kit, put in new jets, mixture screw an throttle return spring when i was there, an cant get it to idle. it just wont stay running. just before i took the carb off i started fitting a full samco hose kit and i'm now having abit of trouble with my breather hose's. there was a loud sucking noise coming from there as i had left the resrictor out of one of the hose's. i put it in an was running worse so i have taken it back out. and is still bad. i no i mite need different jets in the carb but i no some people change the breather system just by putting on a little breather filter sumwhere but i dont no where. i dont no what to do wif it any more

put the restrictor back in, clean the idle jet out and set the mixture initially rich. see how you go with that. If it runs then set the mixture properly.

and this is after zinc plating, cost be £20 to have about 30 bits done, linkages, studs, brackets etc

this was the carb after using the industrial polisher

I have gone over it with my dremel to get into the awkward bits, once I start putting it back together i'll put a pic up of how the polishing turned out. I think it is safe to say though that the silver lacquer paint is a more practical option!

ha so do I! if not it will make a nice paperweight.

I meant to ask, when removing the choke is it just the flap? leaving the spindle and that in place?

    Re: Carb service

just took the accelerator part of the carb off the diaphgram doesnt seem split at all, ive put water one side of it and nothing came through aswell.

and there appears to be no crack in the metal.

is it possible to put the spring in the wrong way? and which way should i be putting it? small end onto the carb body? or vice versa? thanks.

must have had the spring the wrong way.....

had troubles with that so cant imagine what trying to get the idle and mixture right is going to be like

    Re: Carb service

Well finally finished assembly my carb (no need for those bits MR T got them off my busted spare) and here she is

    and on the car...

The car runs alot better as imagined, better throttle response and doesnt stall when you floor it but then given the internal state of the carb before i'm surprised it ran at all.
