How long have you had the car? Does it have a cone air filter on it instead of the standard one? Having one of these creates a whooshing sound when the turbo spools up, I used to hate it so I put an OEM air filter setup back on and the sound went away like magic!

    Re: big problem

this wont be much help but i had the exact same problem with a tomcat, car sounded like kit from knight rider, made next to no boost, i changed everything and nothing cured it, it looks as though it was the turbo up the spout even though there was no play.
