    First post!

Hi all RTOC members just bought my first 5 GT Turbo two weeks ago loving it already feels like a turbo-charged go-kart but much much fun.

welcome to the club mate. try cleaning the idle jet the big brass screw on left hand side of the carb as you look at it. give it a good blow out mate. check for air leaks also.

    Thanks for the welcome

Tried cleaning the idle screw, no change think it maybe needs an overhaul, gaskets etc.
Dont really want to start adjusting mixture screw/ idle screw in case i do more damage than good but think this is probably what it needs.

    Re: hello!!

    Welcome to RTOC

it might have a tuners "group a" carb on it which can make them crap on idle.

when rebuilding measure carb jets and venturi so you know its right.

also check for air leaks around the aei line for tickover probs and always check oil and water level.

Renault 5 gtt unreliable i think not

In the wrong hands they can be. and after they have suffered major abuse, they are untill they get revived by persons that know how

Check thru this to understand the Solex Carb

Thanks for the info mate had a look at the solex overhaul will come in very handy indeed.
Cant find any air leaks at all water and oil seem fine (gonna change them anyway)
Is it worth buying a new mixture screw and accelerator spring clip when doing the overhaul (for what they cost)?
Do all group 'A' carbs have problems with idle or can it be rectified with the proper adjustments?
What is the difference in sizes of the venturi on the group 'A' compared to standard carb?
Finally, what type of oil do people use in there 5? 10w/40 semi synthetic?
Also what type of gear oil do people use? Might as well give that a change too.

    Any help appreciated Thanks.

    Re: hello!!

Some people find these carbs a piece of piss to work with but I never seem to have nothing but trouble. Mixture screw is a good idea, is it still in there as this is a common fault, they fall out. I think most tuners so called group a carbs have a venturi of around 27.5mm with o.e being 25mm.

    Re: hello!!

There is a 'cap' available to stop the screw blowingout Jon, failing that, a drop of silicone sealant works a treat once the carbs set-up.
