Yep. Also 172 Ph1 (aka 169) has cable throttle body compared to electronic from 172/182.

everything is the same, bar the mentioned above, and ph1 172's have bigger exhaust valves ( apparently )

I dont think they do, I've fitted a 182 inlet manifold onto a 172 engine and its the same (As far as I could see) the cam cover is different on a 182 though, it doesn't breathe into the plenum!

later inlets have different breather setups and tb setup, also some came with an inlet stamped rs this has bigger ports, the 172 has a 4-1 mani 182 4-2-1, timing is all the same maps are different nowt else that i can think of

    Re: 172/182 cams

Its just that I find it hard to believe that they managed to make 10hp from an exhaust swap. I am led to believe the camshafts are not the same, that could well be B/S.

    Re: 172/182 cams

so it look like the cams are the same though out the clio sport (ph1 172, ph2 172, 182). just been out and measured the valve's in my c/head the inlet valve are 33mm and the exhaust are 29mm.
does any one know any more about the different size valve? i trying to work out if my engine is ph1 or ph2.
    thanks guys

    Re: 172/182 cams

you can tell by the number on the block F4R is the engine code for all 172/182's
    738 is for the 182
730 are for the mk1 172 (Some Mk1's use the 732 engine with a manual throttle body).
732 is for the 172 Cups
    732 and 736 are for the mk 2 172's
Parts are interchangable there the same basically the Mk2 172 has electric throttle bodies so thats there give away. the 182 having its 4-2-1 manifold.

Bit of a pain - fitted the 182 manifold, decat pipe and new engine mounts to my friend Neils clio cup 172.

Took me most of a day but the difference is massive! Really revs nice and you can feel the difference in power - torque steer in 1st and 2nd is a lot more.

The clio cup inlet manifolds were hand picked from the best castings and apparently all the clio 172 cups have made the power stated or VERY close.

To put the performance into context a tweeked early scooby (big exhaust / I/C on show) was about half a car behind by 100 lost him on the bends - don't tell Neil I was ragging his car though LOL

Clio V6 mk1 airbox to fit when I get time with a cambelt change and full service and pads etc.

You have to drop the subframe

I do have some numbers cast on the back of the block (Just below where the head sits).

Don't forget fuel rail on phase 2 172 is different to the phase 1

So a full subframe drop to do job? i can see numbers rolling in my head also need to fit a decat at same time but thats not an issue.... does the frame have to come right off all bolts or just back ones and lose fronts etc if you get me?

Ps sorry for hi-jack to thread on this......

    Re: 172/182 cams

It was a while ago now but sure I needed to undo all the bolts retaining the subframe. Not that difficult, just be care full to not lower it too far or the driveshaft will pop out the gearbox I did it with axel stands / jacks - would be a lot easier on ramps you need a dcat pipe anyway as it will not join the original 172 exhaust.

    Re: 172/182 cams

Right chaps, i just fitted a set of matched ported inlet manifold to a 172 cup yesturday, i think the jan sport jobby. Now the mani i removed was the RS type, and i could hardly tell the difference between the too IMO. Anyway there is a £60 surcharge on the mani so is it worth swaping for the cash with jan or keeping hold of or are they worth more on ebay?

Also while on the subject are net cams (if i heard right) any good?? seem cheap, if not witch is an ideal cam to go for of the shelf.. Im getting asked to do these jobs but i dont hold very good advice on these motors yet...... cheers

From what I have been reading on Cliosport.net the RS type are fairly rare and are supposed matched / better ported than the rest.

could the difference's just be BS ? sounds like potential BS to me. Rob, sounds like you need to swap that manifold with a standard 172 one I have under the bench, I'll tell you if it's any different
