You can but i wouldnt, the correct way is to either patch them or cut the entire old panel out and replace with the new one... if you tack over them the rust will still be weak underneath any you have just welded to that.. and the rust will soon attack the new panels. Do it right and cut out the rot - its a pain but worth doing properly, especialy if you think that most of the stregnth in a 5 shell comes from the sills...

    Re: My Project

You can see here what mine looked like before i started. If you look through the first little bit ive cut out at the rear end youll see the inner sill (vertical plate) that also looks quite rusty, be sure to check this bit when you are chomping out the rust. If your lucky they will still be solid and only suffering from surface rust which you can treat with a good grinding and then a suitable anti-rust (I used De-Ox Gel by Built Hamber - top stuff). In the end most of this sill came off and got sorted properly. It is easier to do if you buy a sill panel to chop up to make the patches from rather than 'forging' your own from 2mm mild steel plate, which takes ages!

    Good luck

    Re: My Project

Forgot to reply to your text mate.. The windscreen bonds in, and to remove it you need a tool that is basically like cheesewire and it has 2 handles on each end, so you use that to cut through the adhesive. Pretty easy job if you have someone to lend you a hand. I borrowed one from my Mums work, but you can get them off ebay

Matt, you might want to look into dry ice if you want to be lazy removing the sound deadening.
