    Air Mass Meters

Ok, I am fairly certain that it's my MAF sensor, or air mass meter (whatever you want to call it), is at fault on my BMW. The problem being though that from GSF this part alone is £160+ and I don't really want to fork out that much cash on something that potentially doesn't work. Does anyone else know of a good place that sells genuine Bosch or Siemens units for a slightly smaller price?

That link doesn't work for me Leigh

That's a good price Mud, I'll try and get the Bosch part number tomorrow morning or afternoon, are these guaranteed to work though? I'm guessing it's second hand?

The price i gave was out right, some of the VW ones do have a surcharge as you can buy just the sensor part so they use the old housings works out a bit cheaper that way.

Cheers for that! I'll get in contact with him and see if he's got any lying around. I looked on the top of my air mass meter this morning and the only numbers I could see without removing the whole unit was PBT-GF, which doesn't sound like a part number to me . £160 for just the sensor is nuts from GSF

    Re: Air Mass Meters

up to 9/1992 gsf have em on the shelf at £78.50 +vat 187BM0111 is the part number. if yours is after 9/1992, then its the expensive one....

18789c is the replacement sensor = £49+vat...but it only fits certain airmass meters.

    Re: Air Mass Meters

Nice one Sparks, any pics of these sensors by any chance? That number I obtained earlier is obviously incorrect... Looks like I will have to pull it apart when I have the chance as I don't know which year my car falls under, I have a feeling it's the latter

Basically it's been running like a bag of crap for the past few months, not at all acting like a 2.5L as it should. It has felt sluggish for a while now but recently it has slowly gotten worse. Tonight I was out in it and it was running ok, then suddenly, whilst in 4th gear going along, the engine slowed down and the throttle was doing feck all! I pulled over, as it was literally coming to a halt and the idle was all over the place, popped the bonnet and unplugged the air mass meter, at this point the idle speed stopped being lumpy and perked up. I think by default when you remove the plug from the air mass meter, the mixture richens up and makes everything that little bit better, albeit that the throttle response isn't as sharp.

So it seems that something controlling the AFR's is at fault, which, after pulling the plug on the air mass meter, seems to point towards this being the problem. I have ordered a new lamda probe which should also ease my mind, but I desperatly need a new or as new air mass meter, unless I can clean my existing one? Is that possible do you think? Or am I clutching at straws here?

    Re: Air Mass Meters

Just thought I would add that I found a place on eBay that sells brand new MAF's for different vehicles and at a good price http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250320433641 they might not be a genuine Bosch or Siemens item but as long as it sorts my problem out I don't care!
