What is it?

Eco Wax - a mayonnaise style last stage product (LSP) from Mark V.

What Does It Bring To The Table?

Eco Wax is a new breed of wax that is safe for the environment and gives
the detailer the ease of use and results they need.

Eco Wax creates a long lasting, deep shine that lasts for several months. It
contains nano-technology polymers that cure and adhere to the paint
protecting the surface from detergents, UV light, road salt and environmental
contaminates.

Eco Wax is not just great for the environment. It performs better than waxes
that contain VOCs. It spreads very easily and dries within seconds. It is
easily removed with a single wipe of a micro-fiber cloth. Also, it will not stain
rubber or plastic trim!

What Do I Think Of It?

In order to give this product a fair crack of the whip, I decided that I'd do a
good bit of preparation work first, so the roof was treated to a good clean
with a pre-wax cleaner, using a fairly aggressive hand pad. I was a tad
surprised to see what came off, but that is the subject of another thread.
You'll see the pad in the pictures below.

For my first go, I attempted to stretch the area that I could cover in one
go, using 3 small pea blobs of product on a flat foam pad. I could just about
do a quarter of the roof, around 4 sq ft. There was not much time to work
the product before it dried. The temperature of the roof, in dappled sunlight,
was about 30degC. The instructions do say "cool", so I don't know if this was
too warm. Considering how hot this area can get, I'd consider it cool enough
for the time of year.

Buffing-off was a breeze, with very little visible dusting. The instructions on
how long to leave it before buffing were nothing more than allowing it to haze.
Compared to other mayonnaise style LSPs this very was quick to work with.
The resulting slickness was good, though the light wasn't bright enough to
judge the flake-pop.

The resulting shine is satisfying


For my second go, I was able to stretch 3 slightly bigger pea blobs of product
across half the roof. It was clear that the previous coat was helping in the
application of the second. Drying was almost instant, and buffing was just as
quick and easy. However, there was seemingly no marked improvement in either
the finish or in the slickness. I only did half of the roof with a second coat.

For what is a relatively cheap product (by comparison with others in its class)
my first impressions are very good. I'll be giving the car a full-on detail in
preparation for the World Series by Renault event next month, so I'll decide a
bit nearer the time as to whether or not I tackle the roof once more.

Conclusions

The plethora of mayonniase style LSPs that come from America can make deciding
upon a definitive choice very difficult indeed. A great many of these products
seem to be treated (by us detailers) as if they are nothing more than fancy
glazes rather than as LSPs in their own right. This often results in people
recommending that they still be coated with a wax. To me that seems pointless.

Mark V Eco Wax enters a very competitive market, and it comes with very keen
pricing which certainly gives it an edge. A lot of its competitors, in my
opinion, have products that are over-priced, so this is really welcome. If you're
put off by their prices, then this product has a lot going for it and purchasing it
won't disappoint.

The biggest hurdle, probably, is in getting it accepted as an LSP in its own right.
There's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't! It does its job, without frills.
