Last couple of ebay auctions I have seen for new ones ended up at £42 for 6 clips and £39 for 5 clips.

They were cheap. I have about 20 new ones in the garage. Stupid price they hold.

You could make them out of 1.2-1.5mm stainless, won't rust then. They need some flex to slide the side skirt under, but not much.
I have two brandnew packs of ten. Hopefully they will reach the magic number of £450 like the silly gear knobs soon.
Pretty sure I got a set of 10 to do both sides for about £12.00 in 2007 lol. Hope Ive got the odd one left in my spares stash!

too stupid for words now; what will it be like for future keepers?
I'm not a fan of turning a hobby into a cheque-book sport and if anyone does
make huge profits from deals like this, it'll dissuade me from ever sharing them
again. We're meant to be in the same boat...

Renault used to sell them in tens, of course.
I agree Steve and that's why we (rtoc) should stick together. As you know the committee (mainly dale) have worked hard to give our members the best possible deals on parts where possible. Facebook and dare I say it, other clubs seem to be the the place to flog parts at a ridiculous mark up, taking advantage of current enthusiasts.
I'm a total noob, could of been twelve a side. Never seen a 5 with the kit off.

At the prices he was charging, whether it's 10 or 12 isn't a problem.
Further research has found a UK supplier where they're just over a quid each.
I haven't tested whether there is much stock, but £16.50 each is just stupid!
As said, the prices of restored cars needs to rocket before that can be justified.

I don't get why once Renault sell out of stock of an old item, who ever got the last lot must grab some dice, roll them and what ever the number they land on then decide to sell item at that price.
How can something that was 50p or so each turn into sellers price of £165? There no real reason to it?
Why aren't all other stupid clips etc that still in stock got an extra £100 price tag added? Gear knobs, £400 plus! Why?? Years ago no one care'd and binned them.
And don't get me started on the rear number plate light len's, £200 plus!
Prices get inflated by greed, supply n demand.
Community spirit is long gone for the most part.
My intention was to support a guy in France who offers these at a reasonable
price. If that guy selling them on got greedy because I posted the link, what's
the point? Either we're here to share our good fortune, or there's no point. I
now feel very disinclined to share my results, I'm so disappointed.

I feel the same as you Steve, yet i try not to let it change my views, I'll still offer what i can (carb jets and base repairs) at fair cost/low prices.
End of the day I want to see prices go up for our cars but i also want to see them on the road being used, not parked up in fear of a £100 clip falls off
Unless this shyster is an RTOC member who has taken advantage (unlikely), then I can't see a reason to stop sharing information here to help others. Even if he were a member, the sharing of information helps to usurp his business in this respect. It's exactly what's needed. I don't see any Ebay sales yet at that price and they could simply be forwarding on the ones at £82 at a premium.
I honestly think the RTOC community as it stands is the best there is. Over on fb and other sites it's every man for himself! I've said before we need to stick together and try and help one another. The shop is RTOC'S way of trying to give something back to the loyal community.
I agree with Trev, the more you advertise these things the more people will be aware of them which will stop bandits from trying to make a quick buck from the community.
There's a problem with calling people bandits. Mike at GT Turbo Spares has had some
of these for sale for a while at no less than £16.50 each, so he's now a bandit? Things
are very often priced at "what the market will bear", it's just that tidy cars have yet to
catch up. The probable reason for that is that the current market is for OE, but no-one
has determined the rarity, or not, of OE R5GTTs.

No, theres a world of difference between what Mike WAS doing to what the person on eBay IS doing. Mike probably had them for sale at a premium as that is all that was available at that particular time and the market dictated it. He wasn't buying them cheap from the chap in France and selling them on at an inflated price.....
..and there is the dilemma. I take the time and diligence (more hours than I care to
admit) to research these things, post the details here, and charlatans take the info
and profit, with little outlay and all the hard research work done for them.
By the way guys, Seim Window Winders are about to drop off the current list. I paid
around £170 for the pair delivered, which I'm told is a bargain.
One of the very few French suppliers I have found who will despatch to the UK, so
quite a valuable resource...

It's great to be able to add value to the RTOC community off the back of hours of effort, and it would be a real shame for someone to take advantage of that. This has happened on occasion over the last 20 years and people have been dealt with. Thank goodness that hasn't happened in this case.
Will be purchasing 240 of these for the club. CGB have purchased 2000 of them, so will wait to see the price of them from him. These will only go to club members only and not sold to anyone else.
