Fitting a Campus Bottom Pulley & Belt for FMIC

    Hi,

I need to fit a Campus Bottom Pulley & belt to give myself enough room for the pipework for FMIC.
Do i need any specific tools to take the pulley off? How do i know i have the correct tension in the belt once changed? Is this an easy thing to do?

These may seem like dumb questions but i'm not the greatest with a spanner

    Many thanks

    Dan

I think the bottom pulley needs just a 19mm ring spanner to undo it. Or maybe a large bar with a 19mm socket.

Doesn't the Haynes manual have the torque for that bolt?

Also, IIRC, it shows (or showed) a picture of what the correct tension looks like. You use the alternator to tension the belt. Fit the belt, then push the alternator forward, tightening the belt, then tighten the alternator bolt. The belt should have a certain amount of deflection. I forget how much.

The pulley bolt will be very tight, I don't hold out a lot of hope removing it with a ring spanner. You'll need to stop the engine from turning over when you try and undo the bolt. Easy to do.

    Thanks both for help.

Alex, you mention i will need to stop the engine turning over that is easy to do. How do i do this? Again apologies for stupid questions but mechanics are not my strong point.

    Thanks for all your help.

I would say put the car in gear and possibly wedge something (carefully) in the flywheel teeth. It's just so the engine doesn't turn over when you're trying to undo the pulley bolt.

Yeah, IIRC, I used either a very large screwdriver propped in some precarious way, or a 1/4 hex screwdriver bit on it's side up between the bell housing and a tooth. It's been 8 years since the car last drove and so perhaps 10 years since I last did it and I'm not remembering it all that clearly.

Does the Haynes manual has a photo?

For alternator belt tension, I have always used the following rule: Once tightened up, you should be able to grab and twist the belt about 90 degrees with your fingers (so you can see the vee/teeth). If it goes much more than 90 degrees it's too loose and much less, it's too tight.

I never had one snap or slip on me.
