How to clutch advice.....

Hi Guys, need some advice....

now the cars off the road for winter i decided to buy some new parts and have a little project over the winter months.

I bought GT2560r 0.49 rear turbo, 285 cam kit, fmic, valeo green box clutch and other bits and bobs.

What i need help with is how to fit the clutch... ive never done any serious engine work before and ive tried searching the boards and articles for a how too but no luck. so how easy is it and is there any articles kicking about????

remove the engine with a crane/winch/or jack and leave the gearbox in situ.....saves alot of work
when its out u might replace the rear crank oil seal or even timing chain ect!

Well not need necessarily to remove engine.. just need some helping thin metal plate to slip clutch in if I remember right..my car done this way. But haven't any pictures about this trick.

If it's your first time I would do the engine out job that you can align/centralise the clutch properly. Also, that way you wont even need to drop the box oil....just remove the studs from the block/box and bottom pulley and it lifts straight out.

Once you get the engine out and split the box and block you'll see the clutch and it will soon make sense how to remove it and replace. Its just a case of undoing some bolts to remove the clutch. I'd replace the clutch fork white nylon bush while you're in there as well.

As I said before. Clutch can also replace without lifting engine complete out.. just lift Engine little bit with winch that you can separate little(not complete) gearbox. And Clutch can align too, but there isn't much room. If you replace cam also then I guess taking engine out is better thing to do and if you haven't replace clutch before.

And while you're there you could fit the longer release arm if it doesn't already have one. You'll be glad you did and possibly sorry if you didn't.

I've taken the engine out and left the box in and wouldn't do that again as it was a lot slower and more frustrating that removing and refitting engine and box together.

You don't have to unbolt and swing the hubs out either, as the engine lifts, at some point the two drive shafts come out of the box.
