Clutch gone - is this going to hurt?

    Hey guys.

Just driving the 5 back to my house and just as I got to the bottom of my road, the clutch suddenly broke and has gone all loose hanging there. I'm assuming the cable's snapped.

If so, is this going to be an expensive fit regarding parts and labour?
If not the cable, what else could it be.

Proper fortunate it happened at the end of my road - been driving on motorways for the last hour - but still gutted as only picked it up from the garage last week after it passed its MOT

    Cheers.

The cable is cheap enough on ebay and you can fit it in 5 to ten mins. Needs a second person on the crucial point to put to last bit over the gearbox thing. While the other person release tension on the pedal side by pulling the spring out a bit.

Clutch cable and fan belt. Every R5 owner's essential kit to carry in the recess behind the side plastics in the boot

Awesome, thanks. Will it be just as cheap/simple if it has the B18ft in it?

Also, if I have the B18ft, will the standard 5GTT clutch cable suffice or do I need to get one from a Volvo etc?

    Cheers.

Another question - and it might be a daft one - but can I fix it from under the bonnet or will I have to get it up on ramps/jacks?

    Cheers.

Re: Clutch gone - is this going to hurt?

Ive lost track of the number of clutch cables ive fitted to mine over the years. Always fitted them myself. Not the easiest of jobs, but not too bad.

Furthest away from home I had one snap was about 40miles. I just drove home with no clutch. Certainly helps develop your "traffic predicting" skills as to what cars up ahead are doing. Changing up & down a gear with no clutch is easy enough if you get the revs right - will slip straight in. Its when you want to stop, you have to knock it out of gear, stop, turn engine off, stick it in gear and start it up in gear to get it moving.

Which reminds me I need to get a spare one myself!

That's the right part number. I cant see why it wont fit as its all in the same place with that engine.
