Yes and no. With the gearbox no. Also you will need bespoke exhaust manifold, mounts , alternator bracket belt etc etc. to fit the j series box you will need to modify the block as it has a larger bell housing.

To fit with the gearbox, both chassis legs will need to be modified along with new inlet and exhaust manifolds , gear lever , cables, hydraulic clutchbetc. The list goes on.

Kev, that's not the engine for you. Non turbo is the easiest with the more modern engines like the F7/F4 series. The easiest by far is the B18 Volvo 440/480. Drop in, plug in and away. (well almost). There are some good guides/wiring diagrams on this within the files/search sections.

whats the most bhp to be had out of the Volvo lump with stock internals
can the ecu be maped on these easy enough or would be best to stick with the c1j

Think standard the volvo engine produces 120bhp. With a dawes device boost controller. Its 150bhp and with scoffs mod to the ecu boost limit give you 170bhp. The most ive heard with better intercooling and injectors your looking at 225bhp on standard internals.

Ive got leda coilovers in the front. Work fine for me. Although as you say it does feel front heavy compared to a c1j engine.

Cant say as ive never had a c1j always the original monaco/gtx 1.7 engines but they were probably even lighter than the gt turbo. Very noticible diffrence for me anyways.
