I would have thought the Renault 19 diesel or turbo diesel if you can find one. Clio MK1 diesel? Or you after something a bit more modern but then you may struggle with fuel pressure and things like that.

just somthing diesel in general tbh thats a nice straight drop in type conversion with a bit of wiring, ive got a campus , £80 to insure it, seems silly to not try make it into a cheap as chips eco warrior, only the 1L petrol 4 speed probably wont be great for commuting far.

u should measure up a 1.5 out of a clio............a bit more envolved with the electronics ect but 70-80mpg might make it worthwhile

Most Renault 5's I have seen smoke like diesels anyway so nobody will suspect your a Derv!!

Talking of extra vans I would love one with a gt turbo conversion the look on boy racers faces when you shot past would be priceless

Re: diesel engine into a campus?

What will you use to mount the engine on the drivers side?
The extra, clio, 19, megane and laguna that used the F8 1.9litre diesel engine all had a suspended mount on the drivers side turret. When the F8M 1.6litre diesel was used in the 5 with the engine mounted to the subframe. The f series mount for this is no longer available from Renault so your options are get one from a 5 diesel or a 5 with the 1.7 litre engine. I've read that the C series engine mount can be modified to fit to the f series block.
Or perhaps cut out and weld the suspended mount metal work to the 5 turret?

I imagine the front suspension may need uprating as the weight of the Diesel engine will be greater.

Certainly an interesting conversion although I think for it to be a more entertaining drive the 1.9turbo diesel with 95bhp will be worth investigating if the manifolds and ancillaries allow it to easily fit in the 5?

Good luck and keep us updated with the conversion.
