    Phase 2 OE Grille Copies

I am having some of these made at the moment.
Available in FRP for £119.99 or carbon fibre for £230.00.

I'm pretty happy with the design, will be having them made with or without the mesh, and also working on making the strengthening points between the fins a tad thinner.

I think they look pretty good though. If anyone would like one I have put them on my website, should be around 4 weeks till I have some more, just have the one for now which is what the pics are of. Link to grille on my site below:

They have the lugs but are solid, so will need to be either be drilled or secured some other way. They are solid fibreglass though, so plenty to work with.

They look great from the pic on the Evo site. Can you take some close ups and post on RTOC for our scrutiny please?

Look good mate but cant help but notice the horizontal strip is a little too wide, which may put people off.

There are four horizontal strips, which part are you referring to in particular? I'd not noticed anything. Maybe we need a pic of a standard grille to be posted in this thread to compare against.

I think these look to be by far the best replica Ph2 front grilles we've seen so far.

I see, the third and smallest horizontal slat from the top is effectively filled in.

I'd like to see one of these sprayed and fitted as despite the small modification to the design, I think these appear to be excellent.

Yes the thin vent is filled in, it has an indentation where that is.

Its so thin that it wouldn't take well in FRP so has been left out.

Don't forget this is a copy part, the originals would be injection moulded more than likely, so there are some limitations.

It may be possible to cut this out though. I will ask the factory, but can see labour costs going up quite a bit.

The fin supports can be made smaller, but then wouldnt be able to be made in carbon fibre.

I think it might be best to keep as they are for now and get some carbon made, then look at modifying the mould for FRP grilles in future. Otherwise would be a new mould again.

Re: Phase 2 OE Grille Copies

A really good effort these, as the grills are a very awkward piece of kit to replicate.

I'd like to see the standard one once sprayed up.

They do look like they need to be 2-3mm taller at the top section though (i.e. a tad less of a gap between lower bonnet edge and grille).

Re: Phase 2 OE Grille Copies

think a little shave on the part before the headlights would move it up that bit anyway

Do you mind if I nick a couple of the pics for my site mate?

    First post!

Despite the little distortion, a very nice looking item and to replicate such a complex part must have taken some huge balls..

Re: Phase 2 OE Grille Copies

If you trimmed the section just below the headlights, wouldn't the grille stay where it is unless you also altered the lower mountings? If you were able to move it up, would that not then increase the gap between the lower edge of the grille and the bumper?

I'm not being down on these, they're really great. But feedback is important.

Maybe Ted could tell us how much wriggle room there is on the upper and lower edges when fitting.

Re: Phase 2 OE Grille Copies

It would move it up a tad yes. I don't think it would be so noticeable.

I think with some adjustment with fitting it could be made to sit a little higher.

The mould is made now though so there isn't anything I can do to change it at this stage bar making a new mould, which isn't really worth doing as they aren't going to sell in huge quantities.
