    f7p or f4r

if someone gave any of you one of each engine what would you fit.

    just standard engines.
and you wanted to turbo them.
and dont have thousands to spend.

    .... go!

    Re: f7p or f4r

F7 series imo are a nicer simpler engine to work with and for modest power probably the best bet

however the F4R's are in season currently, can be had cheap and loads of spares and modified parts readily available on the clio forums

I currently have 2 F7R powered clios, 1 F7P Turbo powered clio and 1 F4R powered mark 1 clio that just finished being built. but its the F4R powered one i'm using on track as I know if I blow the engine I can replace it easily and cheaply (its staying stock for that exact reason)

Of all those engine, the F7R in stock trim drives imo the best (loads of low down)

Don't think Scoff went F7P before, just fitted a Volvo crank to the F4R to make it 1.8 (shorter stroke)

    No, F7R!

The P is more rev happy over the R, so that's some thing to consider depending on what you want out if it.

    Re: f7p or f4r

the f7 is stronger built, what westy said, just remember though... if you turbo a 2.0 block , you will gain more lower down torque, which will not do the jc5/jb3 box any favours i prefer the revs of the 1.8 for turbo application, if your going to use the cast t2 sized manifold, stick with the 2860r or 2871r turbo, any bigger and they just seem to choke up on the exhaust side, good for 300bhp/290ftlb without hitting stupid inlet temps that and your on the limits of the jb3/jc5 and any of the single paddle 215mm clutch any way

stick with f7p cams also, as they are quite good for lower rpm power band (2000 upto 6500 rpm) or maybe a set of williams cams ,if you can find any, they will be a little less responsive lower down, but will help more top end

F4Rt. 225bhp out of the box. Good for 300ft/lb or 500bhp forged forget the f7 variant old school engine.

lol some very good points guys this is helping. sort of lol keep them coming.
its still a long way off so not rushing the decision.

i like the idea of massive hp but its only going to be a fast road/daily/toy. but has to be reliable and not massively expensive on fuel if i drive sensibly. but i do want the grunt there if needed.

The mk1's yup. Same ish as the Clio Willaims but the head, valves and cams are very slightly different.

    Re: f7p or f4r

the f7r megane has the small port head, expensive coil pack system , and shitty abs plastic rails and waterpump..... they started to cheap out on parts by then..... your still better sticking the f7p head on a f7r block, if your going 2.0l, and getting the cast alloy water pump of the valver /williams,maybe the fuel rail to
