    New 5 GTT issues

    Hey guys.

Hope you're all good and loving the weekend sunshine. Might take the new 5 out for a little jaunt later.

However, I might just leave it be at the moment as it has a few issues. It runs, idles well and flies when I want it too, but there are a few things I need to get checked over before I put its through its paces again.

    1. Fuelling. Seems to be running rich. If I floor the throttle sharpish in 1st and 2nd, it can choke and splutter a bit and feel like it wants to stall at times. Same if going fast and then have to stop suddenly at a junction or set of lights (although this is rare). 3rd, 4th and 5th is fine and runs lovely.

    2. Clutch/Gearbox. Clutch is quite severe (can't work out if this is mechanically dubious or whether it's just because it's an old car - my old Escorts and Novas had clutches that were more like on/off switches) and the bite is almost at the top. As for gear changes, all okay and quite smooth, but is squeaky. Took me a while to get the hang of reverse gear too, but still requires concentration, ha.

    3. Potential oil leak around dip stick. Not sure if this is where the previous owner has spilled oil when topping it up, or whether there is a leak. It's a kind of film around the head and cambelt etc. Wiped it down and there's not been any more appear in these areas from what I can see. Some of you knowledgeable chaps have already suggested this could potentially be a broken seal on the dipstick, oil filter leak and/or oil pressure sender issue. Is this something that could blow the engine to bits or put it into meltdown?

Hopefully all these problems can be easily rectified at not too much a cost, but is there anything in there that should have alarm bells ringing?

    Cheers chaps.

Apart from the fuelling side of things I wouldn't worry to much about the others. The clutch can be adjusted, but can be tricky todo. As for the oil, always good practise to try keep that cleaned up regardless so at least if there is a leak etc will be easier to spot.

Cheers mate. The oil thing's been playing on my mind a bit, ha.
