That's more than that phase 1 grill on there at the moment. Is somebody going to pay that much it through. Might break my raider if prices are going up to silly amounts like that

    Re: Holy shat!!!!!

Not that long ago, people paid £200 for a pair of front bumper strips. £300 for a front bumper I seem to recall, so guessing wont be too long till people pay that for a grill.

Unfortunately, if prices continue as they are then the cars will be worth a lot lot more in bits over resale value

Very true but after time the amount of actual cars left will out balance the need for parts.

    Re: Holy shat!!!!!

I need one in raider blue, I already have one in white that needs spraying but like the idea of just chucking this on.

    If I had the cash I would but I don't so I won't

Definitely worth future piling some of the rarer stuff for 5+ years time. I'm going to have to tackle my rotten scuttle panel soon and for a new screen/scuttle (genuine one) plus spraying and labour it's going to be a heavy hit. Then there's the eventual inner/outer sills plus labour and paint. By that point the whole car will need spraying. Better get saving and stop breaking engines!

These cars will only ever get more expensive to keep/maintain, we are all just going to have to get used to it.

Im glad i stuck a brand new one to one side still in the bag and only paid £45 for it. Like its been said before the rtoc could do with trying to get bits replicated to help members but its not a cheap option if you can find someone will to do it.

Have you seen the whinging on FB re prices, good reproductions are always going to cost good money, more grist for the mill for the moaners.

That is not to say they shouldn't be done

Yes ive seen the whinging wasnt moaning as such just its good the prices are going up as it means the cars should be worth more which means we will all be better off when coming to sell. Its just if you want to keep your car on the road its getting harder to find parts at any price. Ive had my car since 1997 and dont intend to sell and luckily i have put lots of parts away sills new bumpers grill etc and have an extensive array of second hand parts too. I have a mate who knows someone who should be free later in the year to try and replicate the grills. It wont be a cheap option but better to be able to get hold of them rather than needing one and not find one.

Yes mate, be prepared. The majority are grateful, but you always get the odd dickhead slating your efforts.

But don't let the minority deter you fella. It would be a massive thing if you did replicate the Grilles.

    And thanks Hoolio

They're one of the more do able things to copy mate, worst case just replicate in in vinyl. It would look more modern anyway. Unless you're going OE concourse then there's no need for an original

Yeah but the accel pedal is a plastic moulded item, not just a rubber cover like brake and clutch though isn't it?

    Re: Holy shat!!!!!

I heard that people are trying to get the grill reproduced in Poland.

Our efforts came to nothing, partly as there was no real interest in fully solving the lower clips fitment, partly as the manufacture in Ireland said their moulds were failing.

Then someone on FB said he could get them made for £100 each. Did that not happen then?

The club needs a person / group of people to make these repro's happen. As it is, someone wants, there's a mild interest, an attempt is made to do it, few or no-one respond on the boards or offer to help sort it. It gets forgotten. People then complain that the club is failing in this area.

People seem to fail to comprehend 'the club' is a few part time volunteers trying to make a difference, not a multi billion $ corporation with 50,000 highly paid staff!

If someone is willing to lend a grill, I know someone who works at http://www.absmotorsport.co.uk who is willing to have a go at making them in his spare time to keep costs down.

They would then be available exclusively in the club shop for sensible money.

    Re: Holy shat!!!!!

I have a few spare grills kicking around and would be willing to lend a good second hand grill to get this done. All clips and fixings are present only broken on the bottom slate but an easy fix.

That's way there are no members, because there are no cars! So many sold as parts and shell scrapped.

Don't worry there is no chance that Raider is being broken I couldn't bare to remove a part off it unless its being replaced by a better condition one.

But if people are willing to pay that much I am guessing remanufacturing them will soon start paying off, but then again you don't know who purchased that or where it is going, possibly abroad.

That would mean these grills would be made from ABS plastic?

Is that tough and sturdy enough for a grill? It's fairly softly brittle isn't it?

    Are there different grades?

Wasn't this about ABS all discussed already?
