    Ms2 & Edis4

    Just toying with the idea, after April going over to ms2.
    Ideally I'd like to completely do away with the coil and go over to edis4. Now I've been looking on msextra and it seems that megasquirt does support 60-2, however edis4 is is designed for 32-1 and all of the guides seem to recommend going for a 32-1 trigger wheel. My question is, is it possible to use edis4 with the 60-2 flywheel & what sensor do I need to use?

    On a short note: no

    The thing with edis four is it provides it's own trigger, that trigger is linked to the ms2 and the ms2 is then linked to the edis again to give the trigger point for ignition.

    But if you have 60-2 anyway you might aswell just use a wasted spark coil pack

    Oh right :/

    Schwartz mentioned a coil pack from a clio, can this work in the same way?

    Is the easiest option to get a trigger wheel welded to the crank pulley. If it is, I'll wait until next winter and start then.

    My plan was always to go standalone but not until I had settled after the wedding & the move in the autumn.
    I have e cam and orange injectors to go in at some point and could go standalone at the same time. The reason for looking into edis is that if I'm going to invest the time to do it, id like to be able to take control of spark as well.
    If a trigger wheel does need to be welded on, I'll wait until next year as I plan to have the engine out again, change water pump, cam belt, have my bodywork done etc etc so will do the lot then.

    Why would you need edis for the ignition?

    Don't forget you're going standalone so you can drive virtually every kind of ignition

    It was recommended to me, apparently edis is an easy way to develop cop, when going from distributor/single cool.

    Don't know who told you that but he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

    The ms2 runs on standard b18ft trigger and you could make any ignition system work on the ms2.

    Or use adaptronic which can be calibrated to use all the existing sensors. You could change to wasted spark instead of dizzy but mine was fine for 230bhp and 7k revs, timing is adjustable.
    The cam is ok with std ecu albeit not perfect. Not sure which injectors, or cc but I guess your referring to Volvo t5 ones? Again if the impedance is ok a bypass hole will do, again not perfect.
    Don't expect power gains by fitting standalone, it's mechanical parts that allow that, just the ecu makes it all work nicer.

    MS2 Extra can run the std trigger and any generic coil pack. EDIS4 was introduced initially with MS1 Extra as it is effectively a stand alone wasted spark system. It can only use the 36-1 trigger wheel pattern (that is 36 teeth with one removed (-1)).

    I run MS1 Extra with EDIS4 on my C1J and it works just fine, but as you already have EFI, it would be easier to use MS2 Extra that can use a variety of sensors.

    I have ms1 v3 using all standard sensors except for tdc. Using dizzy and standard 60-2 trigger and it's fine. I did think about edis but didn't want a trigger wheel so used standard gear. Imo wasted spark with a clio coilpack is probably your best cheapest option.

    I can't remember the flow rate of the injectors. I do have It written down at home.

    I'd ideally like to go wasted spark as, from what I understand it is more controllable?

    Haz how did you develop adjustable timing?

    You can set the timing to whatever you want on the ms, I have stab reds fitted as i knew they would be big enough and again won't overfuel like on the standard ecu as that can all be altered.

    Any standalone will allow you to adjust ignition timing. Don't know about the others but adaptronic will allow you to use std dizzy, then if you feel it's not good enough just change to coil packs, alter wiring and ecu settings.

    I sent Chris an email yesterday ref. adaptronic to see how his products compare.
    Need to get the car running on its standard management so that I can drive it at the end of March, but when it's at home and I'm not under any pressure to get the car out of the garage/moved etc I'm very seriously thinking about going standalone.

    I think COP (Coil on Plug) is the best ignition system as it allows sequential ignition adjustment, not that it is the only system that does. It is the most expensive though, but probably overkill in most applications.

    That all souns great but to what extent is it going to deliver something good?

    Remember, the more clmplicated the system the more you can ruin the tuning.

    You wont need that these engines are too limited in other areas anyway. If you want to do something like that start by fitting an f7p.
