    Electric Blue Gt Turbo Resto

Thought I would start a resto thread on my latest purchase – an electric blue Gt Turbo

I bought my first Gt Turbo back in 93 - a white J plate with only 22k on it. I sold that, then a few years later fancied another so bought an E reg in electric blue. Although I sold that around 98 I’ve always been tempted to buy another, and really wanted another blue one. A few have come up for sale but it’s either not been the right time to buy or I’ve just missed out & they’ve sold before I could buy it.

Here are my first 2 Gt Turbo’s.

After a trip to the Retro Rides show at Santa Pod last July & seeing the club display I really wanted to get another asap. The week after Santa Pod I spotted a nice red one for sale & was all for getting that but then this blue one appeared. At first I thought it had been repainted electric blue as it was on a G plate & as far as I was aware the last electric blue ones was on E plates.

The car was fairly local & I went to see it the next day & was really surprised that it had not been repainted that colour. A deal was done & the car was delivered the following weekend.

Unfortunately the car is covered in scratches, so will probably need a respray but I will see how it looks after a good t-cut. The car was last taxed in 2005 and does need a lot of tidying, some welding & what I thought was the head gasket sorting.

Here are a couple of pictures from when I saw the car & from when I got it back home.

Ill get some more pics up later in the week

Likewise, I was under the impression that electric blue was finished in 87/88

Maybe it was hanging around a year or so before being registered and sold if it's original paint?

Looks a good base to start with though

I was surprised when I saw it as was expecting it being painted but appart from the drivers door it does look like its mainly factory paint

Re: Electric Blue Gt Turbo Resto

    Cheers for the other comments

My plan was to return it back standard & I started by removing the rear spoiler and replacing the wheels & indicators with original items.

I then sold the twin headlights to help pay for some other bits.

Sorry for the poor quality pics!! Red Carpet, boost hose & rear spoiler

New disks & pads all round

This is more or less how it looks now!

Bought a few other bits, standard air box, head gasket etc & was hoping to get it all sorted and ready for an MOT when a crack in the corner of block was found!!!

The engine has now been replaced and it starts and drives ok. The carb needed replacing, & its now had some welding to the outer sills and the drivers side jacking point was replaced but it has now been MOT’d for the first time since 2005.

It still needs a couple of jobs sorting but at least its mot’d so I can now concentrate on getting the interior and body tidied up. Hopefully I should be out and about in it over the next few months.

Thanks mate. The car was on eBay briefly

Car was originally from Kings Lynn so not too far from Norwich. Was supplied by Swan Street Motors in Kings Lynn when it was new & looks like they are still trading
