Grier releases the S3 (tfsi k04) powered VX220 turbo

I was going to tailor a nice project update for you all on the most recent conversion I have done but truth be told I dont have time lol

So link to the owner of the car with some pics to the build

    ENJOY

Drives nice smooth and similar quick like my friends TT RS I had for the other weekend well untill you got near WOT and then its bloody quick! Expect 0-100 easy 7 seconds as a reference point when the weather dries up with get the race logic box on it and back to Scoff for some RR runs

    http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic...rt-transplant/

Will when I have time try to get some more detailed picks for you all

Big thanks to Scoff for the wiring work

My own VX220 with same setup 90% complete but prob going to finish doing something with the VAG RWD 5 1st

The TFSI is a really nice engine and I'm lucky that I get to drive them most days but that TT RS engine is a thing of beauty.

Perhaps a 5 pot turbo for the back of the 5 Duncan?

Re: Grier releases the S3 (tfsi k04) powered VX220 turbo

Tbh 370ish bhp from the S3 version of the tfsi in approx 910kg is about as much as you can use and easy to get 420ish from hybrid turbo or even 600bhp with turbo and head bolts.

I have test fitted the RS4 V8 in but need work to fit properly the newer V6 SC is a nice unit also but it just adds a load of weight and really would be just for the noise. This was my original plan for my own VX220 project car (untill I data logged the tfsi lump that way )

The 2.5 turbo lumps hold a lot better value than the 2.0 and kind of stops there for that reason

Got a few hours spare over the next week and going to have a closer look at the R5 and decide what to do
    1. Get up and runnning with whats there
    2. 2 engines
    3. vag 4wd R8 style
    4. Tfsi lump

And maybe the 6 speed box

Really want to do some work on the SR20DET powered track car also for track season

And there was me thinking I would stop working 7 days a week in 2014 lol

Extension to build also in next 3 months - to tight to pay anyone

Re: Grier releases the S3 (tfsi k04) powered VX220 turbo

    Spec
K04 tfsi engine - cleaned sump and pickup prior to install (common issue that can block when ran on long life service schedule)
ITG filter / revo intake pipe / custom silicon reducer with recirc connection and turbo flow adaptor on turbo (basically machined chunk of alloy to smooth out flow into turbo and remove the step of oem turbo)
DG custom machined alloy billet mounts and uprated vibratecnic mounts all round
DG custom downpipe and exhaust (Dave Hardwick backbox) im a dog person and no cats here lol all 3" with no reduction and all mandral bends
DG Intake bracket on rubber mounts
DG custom mounting for coolant tank again on rubber mounts
    DG custom fuel line install
DG spec custom S155 steel one piece shafts (audi inner / Vaux outer)
    HPFP autotech
DG spec Pro alloy charge cooler with uprated core
Revo stg2+ ecu work with extra work requested (with linear map addition)
    Triple pass pro alloy radiatior
2-11 gear selector and 2-11 motorsport cables modded to fit
DG rose joint conversion on gearbox
Scoff custom install of oem management / mod VX220
DG custom boost and coolant hose install - retaining 70mm from CC > 70mm TB
Usual full service from fuel filter to oil / uprated plugs etc etc

Most of the other work was nut / bolt rebuild with well everything replaced / upgraded its a looooooonnnnngggg list

Sure there are loads of little things but that a quick overview for those interested

That interests me the most. I always though the five is compromised with FWD , its lethal in a SWB RWD guise , so 4WD is the natural choice ?

normal route would be front engine 4wd layout rather than skyline stylllleeeeee 4wd with rwd biased lol

Gutted I scrapped a full 5 speed box / diff 4wd setup from old skoda 4x4 setup

in some ways interests me more than twin engine but chunk of work there still

See how brave I feel one sunday lol

the diff on the skyline is quite clever with it auto sensing the grip.

Would the Midengine allow any scope to run a prop going forwards to power the fronts ? Would it have enough grip with little more than a void instead of engine ?

Does the current setup have a diff ?

The skyline was more of a bit of a joke but making ref to the fack it more rwd biased and fronts kick in when required with the audi oem type setup. I need to look into it a bit more tbh - I had a blue controller but let it go also so would prob look to trick the controller for 4wd. I have no idea at this stage how rear / midish engine and rwd layout would react with the fronts getting some traction also

There is no diff currently and with the 4wd vag stuff can put atb or locking diffs in but starts to get very expensive for a bit of fun. My own Vx220 vag clearly is going to get most my funds now (well when the kids and wife dont allocate it outside of my car play)

To house the prop its going to be some cutting and welding for sure - about time someone did a wireless electric powered diff lol

Could leave weight in with housing a diff at the front and fuel tank, also maybe house header tank and got CC could even out the weight. I can prob reduce 20kg from the rear end which would also help

Lots and lots of options and as said before have to have a good look at stuff and decide what to do

    Thanks Mart,

Have to see if your free when taking it and a few other juicy cars I have done to brunters later in the year to see what really is the quickest beast and pros and cons of the different conversions done

No problem you having a go in them if you wanted a quick blast
