    F7P or F7R ???????? which is best ?

Advise please I am new to the later Renault engines , what is the difference between the F7P and F7R ?? and which is the better one to Turbo ?

Can a reliable 300bhp be obtained as a daily driver , by that I mean taking it into Europe on a regular basis without worrying about breaking down and still having fun .

    Any thoughts ? Antony

Only a thought , the A7L ( 1565cc ) currently fitted in the R17 needs more power and I am working on various ideas to up it

Both are quite strong units, the F7P can rev higher in standard form than the F7R, as the 2ltr lump has a longer throw crank.

    Both have advantages an disadvantages.

    F7P 1.8 16v 137bhp standard
    revs to 8000rpm standard apparently
    Great throttle response
    Big inlet ports
    Aluminum fuel rail

    F7R 2.0 16v 150bhp standard
Only revs to 7000rpm standard but is capable of more with work
    Excellent bottom end torque
Big valves but smaller ports on the megane version

There's not a massive difference between the 2, depends on what you want out of it.

Big torque and lots of low down grunt, go for the F7R, high revs and less gearbox breaking torque go for the F7P

I'd use a F7P as if you kill it, blocks can be found more easily and cheaply....or at least they could be a while back, seems even the P's are getting harder to come by now

But when properly maintained when are you going to kill one?

I've had a williams driven from 250kkm to 325kkm, always gave it the beans, used the cheapest oil i could find and when i pulled it apart the bores, bearings etc. still looked like new!

standard engine you probably wont, I've cracked a block and warped 2 heads on the turbo build with teething issues etc. so better to use throw away parts imo
